Family- and classroom-related factors and mother–kindergarten teacher trust in Estonia and Finland

This study examined the role of family-related (mother’s education, depressive symptoms and child’s gender) and kindergarten-related (teacher’s experience, teaching practices and class size) factors in mothers’ and teachers’ mutual trust in Estonia and Finland. Six hundred eighteen (206 Estonian and 412 Finnish) mothers of kindergarten children and their teachers (26 Estonian, 49 Finnish) were participated in the study. Both mothers and teachers filled in the questionnaire on trust; teachers’ teaching practices were observed with early childhood classroom observation measure. The results of multilevel modelling showed that mothers in both countries trusted more in teachers who used child-centred rather than teacher-directed practices. Teachers indicated higher trust in highly educated mothers and mothers of girls. Estonian teachers with longer work experience trusted more in mothers than less experienced teachers, and Finnish teachers trusted less in mothers reporting more depressive symptoms. The results emphasise the importance of both family-related and kindergarten-related factors in the enhancement of mutual trust.     

跨文化视角下的对外汉字教学方法初探

在对外汉语教学中,汉字教学一直是难点,但是汉字又是学习者学习汉语、学习中华文化的有效途径,学习者对汉字的掌握程度也影响了汉语学习者听、说、读等其他技能的提高。学习者大多来自不同的文化背景,在学习汉字的过程中,他们面临很多跨文化问题。本文从跨文化视角出发,分析对外汉语汉字教学的现状及意义,并针对跨文化背景下汉语学习者汉字学习的难点,提出相应的对外汉语汉字教学方法。     

英语教学与弘扬中国传统文化

在分析中国英语教学现状的基础上,论述了中国传统文化的重要性及其在英语教学中的作用,并探讨了改进中国英语教学的实施方案,希望对弘扬中国传统文化和提高学生的跨文化交际能力起到积极作用。     

Young people’s academic buoyancy and adaptability: a cross-cultural comparison of China with North America and the United Kingdom

Abstract

We investigated academic buoyancy (a response to challenge) and adaptability (a response to change) among a sample of 12–16-year-olds in China (N = 3617) compared with same-aged youth from North America (N = 989) and the United Kingdom (UK; N = 1182). We found that Chinese students reported higher mean levels of buoyancy and adaptability. We also found that correlations between buoyancy and adaptability, and between these two factors and motivation and engagement outcomes, were significantly higher for Chinese students than for North American and UK samples. In path analyses, buoyancy and adaptability positively and significantly predicted motivation and engagement (typically at p < .001) in all three regions; however, buoyancy effects were significantly stronger for the Chinese students.     

Transforming Perceptions of Urban Education: Lessons From Rowan University's Urban Teacher Academy

To be an effective urban educator requires teachers to understand the contextual factors of students, the school, and the community, and their cumulative effects on learning. Urban teacher academies support a better understanding of urban classrooms and challenge stereotypes of the urban context. The focus of this study was to compare participants' perceptions of urban settings before and after 2 weeks spent at an urban teacher academy for high school students.     

广告翻译中的跨文化因素及归化法的运用

从东西方文化差异的角度出发,以消费心理、文化习俗、价值观、政治法律、礼貌原则、思维模式、词汇内涵及语言表述方式等方面为切入点,分析了跨文化因素对广告翻译的影响并探讨了如何合理运用归化翻译法弥合跨文化沟壑以实现广告的社会经济价值。     

大学英语教学中的人文教育

本文提出并阐述以人文英语教育为主的英语教学。在高校英语课程教学中,通过语言与知识的融合式学习,将单纯的工具式英语教学转化成人文英语教学和跨文化教学相结合的教学模式,从而提高语言能力、思辨能力、跨文化能力和人文素养。     

少数民族地区师资建设刍议

少数民族地区教师队伍不稳定除了经济上的原因外，更深层的原因在于全国统一的汉化教育模式培养出来的教师，不能适应跨化（异质化）教育的需要。因而，要办好民族教育，需要对师范院校学生加强民族政策、民族知识等方面的跨化教育，同时对教师素质的认证体制应兼容异民族的认证指标。     

A cross-cultural comparison of German and Canadian student teachers’ assessment competence

ABSTRACT

Teachers’ competence in educational assessment is a key feature in teacher professionalism. Understanding of assessment competence has evolved from the learning of technical skills in assessment to a context-dependent, socially defined understanding encompassing a multitude of approaches to assessment. Thus, a holistic approach to assessment competence is used in this research to specifically consider the role of education culture on assessment competence. In particular, we compared Canadian and German student teachers with regard to their self-rated competence in, and approaches towards, educational assessment. While structural analysis revealed that the overall dimensions in which assessment is perceived do not depend on culture, ANOVAs pointed at some differences between the two countries, particularly concerning assessment purposes and approaches to fairness.     

Study on cross-cultural interpretations of Mulan

Aiming at arousing people＇s cultural sensitivity, enriching people＇s knowledge of other cultures and increasing people＇s awareness of intercultural communication, the paper, based on the Ballad of Mulan and Disney Mulan, reaches some conclusions about cultural integrations and differences between China and America by comparisons and analyses of Mulan＇s images in the two subjects. Meanwhile, the paper illustrates the trend of ＂cultural glocalization＂ by way of case studies. Finally, the paper brings the conclusion that people should interpret transculturational outcomes from a broad perspective and with an advisable attitude, so that various cultures can achieve harmonious development in multicultural era.
