“实践崇拜”与“拯救实践”———论教育研究中的价值偏执和认识矫正

在对现代教育研究“走不下去”的焦虑与指责中,教育理论研究越来越受到人们的轻视甚至贬低,这加速了教育研究领域中“实践崇拜”现象的产生。教育研究中的“实践崇拜”具体表现为盲目跟风的实践崇拜、功利实用的实践崇拜和无视实践的实践崇拜三种类型,其根源在于教育研究的价值偏执。我们必须警惕教育研究中的“实践崇拜”,必须对教育研究中的价值取向进行审视,并站在传统与现实的双重角度上“拯救实践”,从而还教育研究以清明的态度和真正的内涵。

The place of religion in public education

There is a legitimate place for genuine religious education within publicly supported schools in western pluralist democracies. The idea of the single common school is dead or dying in the densely populated parts of the western, English-speaking democracies. Once choice of school is conceded, then the religious school should be a central offering.Religion has a traditional place in most western democracies, eitherde jure orde facto. Further, there is evidence that religious adolescents make at least as good, and probably better, citizens than do those without religion.Finally, the idea of a consensually acceptable secular alternative based on high moral values is no longer tenable. Anything approaching a common school must be bound by minimal values not a high-level set, because there is simply no large set that is universally acceptable and agreed upon. In practice, urban, public schools serving heterogeneous clients rely heavily on exactly such a minimal set.     

Information sought by prospective students from social media electronic word-of-mouth during the university choice process

Universities are increasingly utilising social media for student recruitment, the most highly used channel for prospective students. However, research on information gathering and electronic word-of-mouth (eWOM)-seeking behaviours on social media is generally absent. This paper explores the information sought by prospective students on social media, by analysing data from actual conversations on Quora, a social media question-and-answer site. Content analysis of 865 questions was conducted to examine the information regarding the factors students seek when selecting a university. The findings report information requirements on five major dimensions, namely reputation, career prospect, learning and leaching, administration and student life. This paper contributes to higher education literature by revealing the university information search factors students most commonly seek on social media, utilising a unique data source derived from actual online questions. Through understanding the eWOM-seeking behaviours of prospective students, universities can more accurately target their social media content.     

Different courses, different students, same results? An examination of differences in study progress of students in different courses

An important issue in higher education researchis how to keep study progress at a good pace.In this article we will deal with the studyprogress of first-year students in variouscourses in Dutch higher education. Why are somecourses more effective than others? Dosuch aspects as the composition of studentpopulation and different curricula influencevariation in study progress, after controllingfor individual factors? Multilevel analysisshows that there is in fact such variationbetween courses and this variation is onlypartially explained by individualcharacteristics and course characteristics. Atthe individual level, sex, initial ability,academic fit, expectation and commitment areimportant factors. After controlling for theseindividual factors, some courses still turn outto be more effective than others in gettingtheir students to earn credits. Students incourses with a high proportion of women makemore progress than students in courses with ahigh proportion of men. Furthermore, courseswith a high average number of student studyhours per week do better. Courses are ranked inan `order of effectiveness' before and afterimportant factors in the models are taken intoaccount. Comparing courses before and aftercontrolling for any characteristics clearlyprovides a different picture of effectivecourses.

文化与民族的密不可分决定了文化选择对民族发展的至关重要性。基诺族民居是其传统文化的集中体现，其现代变迁鲜明地展现了基诺族文化选择的特点。基诺族的文化选择集中表现为对现代文化的认同和追求，对传统文化的有限自觉与建构。基诺族的文化选择，是党的民族政策成功实践的重要体现，也是基诺族人民自主选择的结果，但与保护民族传统文化的要求也存在一定的出入。
