Self-Service Interlibrary Loan

Abstract

Technology is rapidly moving libraries toward a self-service interlibrary loan model. Patrons currently request books and articles through OCLC's unmediated ILL Direct Request service, and interlibrary loan management software enables users to request, track, and renew borrowed materials unassisted online. In addition, products such as SFX and Serials Solutions further expand unmediated requesting. Peer-to-peer resource sharing defined by the ISO ILL Protocol and direct consortial borrowing, which has become possible following the recently approved NCIP standard, encourage and support the widespread development of self-service interlibrary loan. As borrowing from other collections becomes an almost effortless process for library users, reference librarians must find ways to encourage patron use of local collections, as well as familiarize themselves with the mechanics of unmediated interlibrary loan to better assist patrons in their use of evolving interlibrary loan technology.

拙作是对《反思启蒙：中国呼唤＂逻先生＂》一文中＂中国传统无逻辑＂、中国儒家经典中存在＂大量自相矛盾的逻辑错误＂的＂反逻辑传统＂、＂中国无科学＂等观点的反驳。以近代西方关于＂逻辑＂、＂科学＂的标准来衡量古代中国是不公正的。近代科学兴起的根本原因是思维方式、方法的差异,直接原因是望远镜、显微镜等一系列观察工具的发明,由此宏观世界和微观世界的奥秘才被发现。     

Direct instruction as a pedagogical tool in religious education

Recent advances in the cognitive sciences along with theoretical perspectives from a Vygotskian learning paradigm are used to provide a justification for direct instruction in religious education. Direct instruction is not seen as the end of the learning process but one way in which students can be equipped to engage in more complex learning tasks which both challenge and engage them. To be pedagogically effective, direct instruction must be part of a wider teaching strategy and be based on a number of key principles, such as coherence, signalling and recognition of prior learning. The paper argues that direct instruction is especially relevant when dealing with conceptually difficult material. In addition, it also has a place when working with students who lack strong content knowledge.     

5-磺酸基-3-碘水杨酸的合成研究

以5-磺基水杨酸为原料、碘化钾为碘化剂,以双氧水为活化剂,以乙醇—水溶液为溶剂,合成5-磺酸基-3-碘水杨酸。最佳反应条件为:乙醇—水体积比为1:3,氧化剂与原料摩尔比为2:1,反应时间6 h,反应温度70℃,5-磺酸基-3-碘水杨酸的最高产率可达到87.3%。     

Additive Models for Multitrait–Multimethod Data With a Multiplicative Trait–Method Relationship: A Simulation Study

Confirmatory factor analysis (CFA) is widely used for analyzing multitrait-multimethod (MTMM) data. But there is no consensus about whether multiplicative or additive trait-method effect of its parameterization, most appropriately represents the underlying structure of MTMM data. Given the popularity of two additive CFA models, the CT-CM model and the CT-CU model, this simulation investigates their performance for multiplicative MTMM data. Results showed that the CT-CM model had much lower convergence and proper solution rates than the CT-CU model. Although both models had adequate fit for the converged solutions, all parameter estimates from the CT-CM model were unacceptably biased. The CT-CU model worked well in most conditions and was quite robust to the multiplicative data when the matrix size was 3T3M.
