This article questions some popular cultural assumptions about the nature of everyday discourse. It claims that such discourse is in fact richly metaphorical and that, through the operation of metaphor, we fictionalise ourselves as we talk. This article reports on findings from a sociolinguistic qualitative study exploring inter-discursive relations manifested in the approaches and strategies that regional accrediting agencies in the United States utilise when recognising foreign universities. Even as most countries have developed national quality assurance systems and whilst international rankings comparing institutions globally are available, a growing number of universities around the world seek recognition from American regional agencies. By comparing policy statements, manuals, guidelines and other documents, and after interviewing top-level officers at US accrediting agencies, this study makes explicit the assumptions and central discourses associated with US accreditation of non-US institutions of higher education, from the accreditors’ perspective. Following constant comparison and cultural critical discourse analysis, the study reveals concerns about the equivalency of quality, emphasis on capacity building and reluctance toward adapting US standards. An interest in building international partnerships, in order to respond to globalisation, is also identified. 相似文献

王夫之诗学理论建构与《诗经》阐释密不可分,它主要通过三个命题体现出来。“《诗》者,幽明之际”以《诗经》祭祀诗为对象,重视诗乐在沟通人神中的功用,并以音乐为介质展示了幽明隐显、形上与形下世界中诗歌本体存在的意义;“诗以道情”说从《诗经》批评实践出发,不仅会通“诗言志”和理学家的性情论等理论资源,而且以“气”的哲学观念为本,突出了“情”与“景”、“心”与“物”不可分离的本源性的关系,因而具有了超越传统情感诗学的价值与意义。“兴观群怨”是中国《诗经》学和诗学史上的重要命题,王夫之对这一命题阐释的意义在于,它以“情”为中心,将“兴观群怨”作为一个不可分割的整体,并从“现量”说的意义上阐释“兴”,因而赋予了这一命题新的内涵。 相似文献

迪斯尼动画片《木兰》在再现“他者”的过程中对本土文化进行了东方化和美国化。原作《木兰辞》所蕴涵的中国传统文化受到美国主流文化的置换。在这一过程中,第三世界的文化受到文化霸权强有力的渗入和强权干预,导致自己的民族文化遭受边缘化。面对这种后殖民文化霸权,第三世界文化应积极寻求走向世界的新的可能性。 相似文献

In Ireland and the UK it is accepted practice that agencies with formal responsibility for delivering school examinations allow examination candidates, and in many cases their teachers, to see their examination papers once they have been marked. Returned papers can carry various pieces of information; as well as the total score given for a performance, additional information is included in the form of the annotations left on the examination paper by the marking examiner. As far as we know there has been no research into how this information affects those who come into contact with it. The study uses teacher interview and survey data to explore whether a sociocultural approach to analysis can illuminate the factors that might influence their interpretation of those annotations. These analyses suggest that a key influence on the valid interpretation of an examiner's annotations is a teachers' involvement in examining activity. The analyses support further conceptualisation that these teacher-examiners' interpretative capacity is related to their positioning in a boundary zone between two different activity systems. 相似文献

Teacher change towards developing competences for technology use in mathematics teaching has been the focus of current educational reforms worldwide. However, a considerable amount of research denotes the extent to which teachers resist a full integration of technology in mathematics classrooms. The present paper is based on an ethnographic study and focuses on how mathematics teachers – as they participate in an intensive training course – perform identity work whilst collectively articulating meanings concerning the potential of technology-based mathematics learning. By means of discourse theory, we analyse how they try to fix meaning as they engage and interact with varied discourses of ‘change’. Our findings indicate that mathematics teachers' attempts to articulate meaning are organised around discourses that concern directly societal and learning issues of technology use in mathematics teaching. 相似文献
