Dr. Stephanie Havron Rollins, Instruction Coordinator, and Ed Cherry, Systems Librarian at Samford University, presented the results of their research that measured the use of library electronic resources and academic success as defined by a higher grade point average (GPA). They presented statistics on student database log-ins by college, department, and major; student log-ins by level, class, and gender; and student undergraduate GPA by department and class. Research implications were discussed along with future research ideas. Their findings demonstrate to library stakeholders the impact that the library has on student success.  相似文献

Abstract

This paper describes a grant-funded research project to relocate selected print journal runs, for which an electronic version is available, to remote storage from the shelves of campus libraries at the University of California. During the project, users will rely on the electronic version of selected journals. Data, including costs associated with the project, usage of print journals, usage of electronic journals, as well as user behavior and attitudes, will be gathered and used to develop long-range strategies and institutional policies.  相似文献

The ease with which journal usage statistics can now be collected and ingested into e-resources management systems encourages librarians to make renewal and cancellation decisions based on a simple cost-per-download metric. However, to avoid basing decisions on erroneous data it is important to consider the reliability of this metric. There are many reasons why the cost-per-download of one journal is not as directly comparable with that of another journal as might be expected. Nevertheless there are steps that libraries can take to identify and to apply corrections to misleading usage statistics. A balance needs to be struck between usage analyses being rigorous but time consuming, and being pragmatic but “good enough.”  相似文献

This article aims to describe the differences between research-focused and teaching-focused (non-research) universities in terms of usage of web-based library services, as discovered by way of questionnaires and statistical analyses. It was found that the type of university within the country of Malaysia correlates to significant differences in usage of e-journals and Web-based library services in general. Factors such as library budget allocations, research productivity, and extrinsic motivations for using Web-based library services are surmised to have influenced the usage. The results also suggest that library programs at both types of universities are ineffective in creating awareness of the services. This article discusses several aspects of usage in both types of university and makes several suggestions to remedy identified problems.  相似文献

Web page views of databases by title and databases by subject pages, in conjunction with COUNTER Database Report 1 and Journal Report 1 statistics, were examined to determine what impact a migration to Primo, a Web-scale discovery layer, had at Central Washington University Brooks Library. The analysis determined that the first year post-migration (2015) compared to the two years pre-migration (2013–14) saw a decline in Web page views of database Web pages, journal full-text article requests, and database record views and result clicks. The implementation of Primo thus had a noticeable negative impact on both direct database access and overall electronic resource usage during the first year post-migration.  相似文献

文章讨论了现代汉语“才怪”的用法,主要从三个方面进行:一、分析了“才怪”句的语义,根据语义将“才怪”句分为两大类。“才怪1”表示“才奇怪”之义,在句子中做谓语。“才怪2”表示对某一情况的假设性推断的否定,为假设推断类。通过使用频率的考察,发现第二种用法为主要功能。二、从句法结构角度对“才怪2”进行进一步分来考察,分为三种结构类型。三、认为“才怪2”具有较强的口语色彩,通过隐形的语用推理过程,表达委婉的否定。  相似文献

语言是表达思想的工具与载体,人的思想与语言是受不同时期社会文化影响着的,并时刻反映着的社会文化现象。语言使用中的性别歧视现象也正是人们“男尊女卑”的观念的写照。英语语言中的性别歧视现象可以从英语词汇、语音语调和语义这三个方面来陈述,以及从历史文化背景和社会根源两个方面来分析其产生的原因。只有改变思想观念,真正实现男女平等,才有可能根除英语语言中存在的性别歧视的问题。  相似文献
