Programming Plus Subject Expertise: A Combined Approach for Approval Profile Modification

This article focused on the analysis of four years of circulation data from print monographs acquired through an approval plan and firm ordering and incorporated interlibrary loan data to compare purchases with demand. A group of subject areas, including communication, psychology, and engineering were selected as examples for in-depth analysis. Using R programming, the authors automated an analysis to identify areas needing attention. The results from the analysis, together with librarians' subject expertise, enabled librarians to adjust monograph purchases accordingly.     

微信图书馆用户使用意愿影响因素实证研究

[目的/意义]调研中国高校学生对微信图书馆的使用意愿,探索影响用户使用微信图书馆的因素,以期为微信图书馆的发展和服务水平提升提供参考和建议。[方法/过程]在技术接受模型、整合型技术接受与使用模型和信息系统成功模型的基础上,建立一个理论模型,提出研究假设。以重庆大学微信图书馆用户为调查对象,采用问卷调查和结构方程建模的方法,对模型进行分析与验证。[结果/结论]社会影响和使用态度是影响用户使用微信图书馆的主要因素,感知易用性和感知有用性通过使用态度间接影响用户使用意愿,信息质量、系统质量和服务质量正向影响感知易用性和感知有用性,但是信息质量和服务质量对感知易用性的影响效果不显著。提出的服务改进建议,对于提升微信服务水平,具有一定的实践与指导意义。

国内外老年人互联网使用行为研究述评

[目的/意义]在老龄化社会和信息化社会同时到来的时代背景下,研究老年人互联网使用情况,一方面可以为开发老年服务产业提供理论依据,另一方面也为满足老年人生活需要,改善老年人生活质量提供有价值的建议。[方法/过程]基于老年人互联网使用行为,讨论研究中涉及的互联网服务内容和类型,在此基础上对老年人互联网使用的价值研究和影响因素研究成果进行系统梳理与述评。[结果/结论]老年人使用互联网对提升生活幸福感、降低孤独感、提高社区归属感以及增强认知能力有一定的作用;在使用动机和接受因素方面,感知有用性、感知易用性、自我效能、结果预期和一些构成因素会影响老年人使用互联网的意愿与行为。未来研究可以聚焦在提供更符合老年人需求的互联网服务、根据具体互联网使用内容分析对老年人产生的价值、挖掘老年人特有的互联网使用影响因素、探讨新型互联网环境中如何促进老年人使用网络服务4个领域,形成有针对性的理论创新与建议。     

基于彩色图像的可逆数据隐藏评价算法

可逆数据隐藏是继密码学、传统的数据隐藏算法之后的又一项重要技术,主要应用在军事、医学等特殊领域。近几年可逆数据隐藏算法层出不穷,但数据嵌入的核心思想大同小异,算法优劣的比较不是很明显。针对这一问题,文章提出了一种新的关于可逆数据隐藏的算法比较方案,实验证明该方案能够较好地分析出可逆数据隐藏算法的优劣,具有一定的实用价值。     

《红楼梦》中的“没的”研究

《红楼梦》(前80回)中的"没的"的用法与其早期的用法一样,存在"没的1"、"没的2"和"没的3"这三种不同的形式,但与之前的用法也有不少差别。"没的"在《红楼梦》中出现的次数并不多,用法也趋向于单一,说明这个时期的"没的"已经处于衰落期,没有早期的复杂多样的使用情况了。     

Popular with whom? Usage demographics of popular science nonfiction at an academic library

Abstract

There is a large body of nonfiction written for a general audience which is infrequently promoted in popular reading collections at academic libraries. The aim of this research is to look at the usage of nonfiction science literature at a large university library in comparison to the science collection as a whole. This information can help librarians to not only determine how best to prioritize the collection of nonfiction science literature, but it can also be used to provide insight into how popular nonfiction science books can be most effectively promoted to library patrons.     

Marketing Electronic Resources and Services

Summary

In an effort to provide desktop access to information at Texas A&M University, an increasingly greater portion of the University Libraries' budget is being spent on electronic resources and services. This study, a survey of a random sample of the faculty and teaching staff, was designed to determine if these resources and services are being used by the targeted population and, if not, why. The results of the study indicate that a lack of information is the greatest obstacle to the use of electronic resources/services, and they suggest that the Libraries should place greater emphasis on outreach to the faculty and improved marketing strategies.     

The “80/20 Rule” and Core Journals

This column examines the 80/20 rule, also termed a Pareto distribution, and explains these terms' historical origins. The column focuses on this pattern in the use of print serials, downloads from electronic databases, and citations to journals. The rule's relationship to Bradford's Law is explored, and some of the research pertaining to the 80/20 rule is reviewed. The pattern's utility for defining the core collection and serials collection management is discussed, whereas a number of limitations are pointed out. Some questions for further research are suggested. It is concluded that the 80/20 ratio (80% of use is derived from 20% of the titles), when found as an approximate pattern, is a valid method for determining the core concept in journal collection management.

This column provides a preview of what is being discussed for inclusion in release 4 of the Counting Online Usage of NeTworked Electronic Resources (COUNTER) code of practice. We will look at the rationale behind the proposed new reports, changes being considered for the processing guidelines and updated audit expectations.
