Governments worldwide are changing their educational policies to improve student performance. Some of these reforms involve the introduction of high-stakes testing, which often creates negative effects such as ‘teaching to the test’. This article deals with the use of low-stakes testing in the German states of Hesse and Bremen, and analyses whether statewide low-stakes testing produces comparable results to the use of high-stakes tests from the perspective of teachers. Moreover, it seeks to identify the factors responsible for the observable teaching to the test effect, above and beyond the use of statewide exams. The data come from surveys carried out in the framework of a longitudinal study funded by the German Research Foundation. Hesse and Bremen introduced statewide exit exams in several subjects in 2007 and 2008 as low-stakes tests. Our quasi-experimental study has been evaluating these implementations since 2007. 相似文献

The purpose of this paper is to explore the relationship between civil conflict and educational achievement in Colombia through the use of pseudo-panel analysis. We construct a pseudo-panel of schools using the Colombian high school exit examination (Saber11) results from the years 2000, 2002, 2005 and 2007. The results obtained in this research provide evidence of the negative repercussions that a civil conflict can have on human capital accumulation at the school level. Results show a negative and significant relation between the intensity and presence of conflict and the levels of performance in the mathematics and language examinations. 相似文献

民国初期北京政府建立了较为详备的学校校内考试系统,政府以法督考,对传统考试文化既有沿袭,也有新创;学校实施则因校而异,但总体趋势是吸收西方考试文化新知,且考试管理趋于严密,反映出社会转型时期教育考试发展的新特点。对这一时期学校考试制度和实践进行梳理、钩稽,将有益于当今学校考试实践及其发展。 相似文献

Students’ science-related career expectations are important for predicting their future science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM)-related educational and occupational attainments. This study examines the degree to which standards-based external examinations are associated with a student’s propensity for pursuing science-related professional occupations. The science-related fields included in the analysis are mathematics, physical and life science, and engineering/computing. Three-level hierarchical generalized linear models are employed to analyse international survey and student achievement data from the Programme for International Student Assessment (PISA). The analyses show that students in national education systems that require standards-based external examinations have lower expectations for science-related professional careers than students in the systems that do not use such examinations. This negative association remained constant by gender as well as across levels of science performance. From an educational policy point of view, the results suggest the negative consequence of standards-based external exams in fostering students’ interests in pursuing science-related careers. 相似文献
