Australian Approaches to Policy Development and Resulting Research Issues

This paper is in two parts. The first outlines the context in which the Archives Authority of New South Wales (State Archives) is implementing electronic recordkeeping as part of a recordkeeping regime across the New South Wales public sector. The second part is an attempt to identify what I feel are unresolved issues, which may be resolved by practical or pure research, and as they relate to electronic recordkeeping, that we are facing in implementing the regime.

Crunch time: the revised ISO 15489 and the future of recordkeeping

The revised International Standard ISO 15489:2016 Part 1: Principles and Concepts establishes a framework and a set of techniques with which today’s recordkeeping professionals can implement appropriate and digital-ready strategies for recordkeeping. Moving away from conventions that remained tied to the paper world, the Standard establishes a set of principles to guide any approach, regardless of technologies and formats, and explains the fundamentally important work of appraisal. It also describes the essential elements of controls for records, to assist with access, retention and more. In this reflection, the author describes the genesis of the revised standard and argues that, unless recordkeeping professionals embrace the contingent and fluid nature of their work, and adhere to principles such as those described in the Standard, they will not produce solutions to accountability, access and memory challenges that meet the needs of the connected world.     

Cataloging for Consortial Collections: A Survey

ABSTRACT

Libraries face many challenges in making electronic resources accessible and discoverable. In particular, the exponentially incre-asing number of licensed and open access electronic resources and the dynamic nature of consortial collections (platform changes, title transference between packages, and package overlap) present challenges for cataloging and discovery. From March 21 to April 10, 2017, the authors performed a selected review of library literature and conducted a survey of library consortia worldwide to ascertain the cataloging models, strategies, and advanced technological tools used to ensure discovery of consortial collections. The findings from the literature review and survey are summarized in this article.

历史演义小说中女性形象的类型化特征

在历史演义小说中,男性叙事者将其笔下的女性形象分为明显的正反两大阵营。“贞女烈女”是贞烈观念的化身,是正面女性形象中最具代表性的,他们被作为道德、忠义的推动力量,义无反顾地承担着本该男性承担的政治忠义;反面女性形象中的典型代表“妒妇淫妇”本是被摒弃在社会生活之外的,然而不论是呈现出疯狂色彩的酷妒女性,还是无史可稽的淫荡女性,都无一例外地被“存在着道德偏见的评价”视为正常人性之外的“另类”,他们小小的失德也被赋予了颠覆江山社稷的“威力”。这都使得人物形象失真,不符合人情。究其原因,是男性以道德观念来演绎女性形象,致使女性形象成为“女德”的传声筒,丧失了类型化人物形象所具有的“人性的深度感”,类型化塑造法与女性道德的简单捏合,使女性道德与人性背离本质,也向我们昭示了封建社会强加给女性的种种道德的非人性化。
