Essential Skills for Corporate and Special Librarians

Abstract

Library science programs must be responsive to the wide variety of workplace needs to ensure that graduating students are prepared with appropriate knowledge and skills regardless of where their career path brings them, and to do so they must understand the various needs and expectations of the field. Through a nationwide study of over 2,000 current professionals and LIS faculty, this study examines the knowledge, skills, and abilities identified as core for special and corporate librarians. The results help establish a baseline of skills for corporate and special librarians, which will be of interest to current and emerging professionals interested in a career in these settings and could have implications for LIS education.     

Librarians collaborate successfully with nursing faculty and a writing centre to support nursing students doing professional doctorates

This study explores how a three‐way collaboration between a University library, writing centre and faculty created avenues of training and support for students within a Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) program in an American University. The role of each partner involved in the collaboration is discussed alongside the profile of the DNP students. Lesson planning and classroom techniques for DNP information literacy classes are described and feedback from the partners and the students are discussed. The study confirms that collaboration is effective in improving research and writing skills. D.I.     

Mathematical biography and key rhetoric

The intention of this article is to consider the use of narrative and rhetorical inquiry as research methods. I construct a mathematical biography of one elementary teacher trainee, Sirpa, who had performed well in her advanced mathematics course in upper secondary school. I describe her development as a mathematics teacher during teacher education from her second-year methods course and teaching practice to fourth-year teaching practice. Narrative inquiry is more than a case study: Sirpa’s mathematical biography is a story that describes how she constructs her mathematical identity. I also analysed the key rhetoric that Sirpa used in her talk, key rhetoric here referring to the strategy by which she constructed continuity and coherence.     

对课程叙事研究特点的解读

课程叙事研究是研究者以讲故事的形式述说自己或别人经历过的课程事件并诠释其中的意义。它关注真实、复杂课程情境中的特定问题,重视课程事件的丰富性、形象性、复杂性和多样性,因此以质的研究为方法论。课程叙事研究所揭示的意义是研究者通过对自己的课程生活实践仔细的审视、分析而得出的,审视和分析的过程即反思的过程。     

“普方古字音对照查询系统”的设计与实现

方言的调查研究应该充分利用计算机技术。＂普方古字音对照查询系统＂以《古今字音对照手册》所录汉字为基准,建立了ACCESS数据库,并利用ASP语言设计了查询界面和查询结果显示界面。利用本系统,可以选择拼音、汉字、反切、韵摄、等呼、古声、古韵、古调、方声、方韵、方调、普声、普韵、普调等参数,通过网络进行任意或组合查询,使普、方、古之间的对比研究变得更加便捷、高效。     

论求职面试中的口才艺术

良好的口才是大学生求职面试成功的关键因素之一。当今大学生求职面试存在着五大误区。大学生求职面试只有走出误区,潜心培养各方面口才能力——知己知彼、模拟训练、培养良好习惯、增加知识储备、总结经验教训,同时,努力掌握面试口才技巧——避重就轻转移话题、化被动为主动、创新思维、模糊回答两难问题、幽默化解尴尬,方能在激烈的职场竞争中脱颖而出。     

以技能比赛促进技能教学的模式研究

技能教学是高等职业院校教学的根本。当前一些高等职业院校在技能比赛上取得了一定成绩,但是技能比赛在提高技能教学质量方面还有待探讨。以目前重庆市内职业技术学院技能比赛与技能教学相结合的现状为例,就如何更好的以技能比赛来促进高等职业院校技能教学的发展,实现技能比赛与技能教学的良好结合进行了一定的探讨。     

报刊阅读与英语语言技能的促进

针对目前英语课程多元化、教学方法多样化的现状,提出了开设报刊阅读课的设想。即利用丰富的英语报刊资源,激发学生学习兴趣,扩大词汇量,拓展知识面,促进语言技能、语言知识的有意义学习,提高学生综合运用语言的技能。     

试论求职技巧的训练与指导

求职过程是求职者全面展现自身综合素质的过程,求职技巧作为综合素质的表现始终贯穿于求职过程的全部。目前,中国的就业形势比较严峻,求职者面对的竞争越来越大,企业对求职者的要求也越来越高,面试方式更趋多样化,为此,对求职者进行求职技巧的训练和指导对求职成功与否起着至关重要的作用。本文采用实例法进行研究,从阐述求职技巧的内涵及求职技巧训练与指导的重要作用出发,针对求职者求职技巧的现状进行分析,提出求职技巧训练与指导的具体措施。     

高校教师教学技能培训现状的调查——以河南省豫北地区7所高校为例

通过对河南省7所高校教师教学技能培训状况的调查发现,高校教师普遍重视多渠道提升自己的教学技能,尤其认同教学技能培训在促进教师专业化成长方面的重要作用;高校普遍关注教师教学技能培训,培训组织形式多样,培训内容丰富,在提高教师教学能力,尤其是对新任教师尽快适应教学方面起到了有效的引领作用。同时,高校教师教学技能培训机构和制度有待健全和完善,培训时间短,培训覆盖面小,培训效果也有待提高。
