陆军军官院校课程体系的变革与创新——中外陆军院校长论坛综述

2013年在陆军军官学院召开的“中外陆军院校长论坛”邀请了6所外军院校和4所解放军院校的院校长就“陆军军官院校课程体系的变革与创新”进行了研讨交流。本文主要就军官培养面临的挑战与军官培养模式改革、军官学校的科学文化课程变革、军官学校的军事与体育课程变革等主要议题,梳理中外院校长所阐发的观点和各国的实践。     

一种新的人才培养方式——国际长期研讨会

随着科学知识国际化、电子化与信息化的不断深入,科学知识的内容不断增加,国际上对专业人才尤其是高级人才的培养提出了新的挑战。“国际长期研讨会”在此背景下应运而生,其目的是在某一专业领域,集中国际上知名学者和潜在未来人才,从基础知识到专业技能进行深入讨论和储备后备人才,使其获得该领域的未来发展方向,推动国际合作,提炼当前关键科学问题。“国际长期研讨会”,为我们的人才培养提供了一种值得借鉴的新形式。     

目的论视角下国际商务合同的汉译——以某战略合作合同为研究个案

以目的论为理论框架,以医药产业领域的某战略联盟合同为研究个案,结合目的论的三个基本原则,分析了国际商务合同的翻译要求,探讨了目的论视角下的翻译策略,指出目的原则是国际商务合同翻译的指导准则,连贯原则和忠实原则有利于实现合同译语文本的预期功能。     

论我国国际私法教学的本土化

法律制度是法学的主要研究对象之一,国际私法是舶来品,三十多年来我国涉外民商法律和涉外民商事司法的积累,为我国国际私法教育的本土化提供了充分条件。必须尽快实现国际私法教学体系、内容、方法的本土化,突出我国涉外民商法律的地位和涉外司法成果,为促进我国涉外民商事交往培养高素质人才。     

新形势下高职院校师资建设国际化存在问题及对策

在教育国际化发展的趋势下,高职院校国际化办学成为实现高等职业教育国际化的重要手段。师资建设国际化水平是直接影响国际化办学质量的关键因素。分析师资队伍存在的问题及解决对策,对提升高职院校的人才培养质量和高职国际化办学水平具有重要意义。     

Critical pedagogy and emotion: working through ‘troubled knowledge’ in posttraumatic contexts

This article critiques some of the existing literature in critical pedagogy and the way it tends to overlook or downplay the strong emotional investments of troubled knowledge in posttraumatic situations. Examining existing literature in critical pedagogy reiterates the argument that the discourse of critical pedagogy constructs and sustains its own disciplinary affects. This article builds further on this argument and highlights the importance of foregrounding rather than backgrounding the complexity of difficult emotional knowledge and its pedagogical implications. Working from the assumption that critical pedagogy, especially in the context of posttraumatic societies, must engage this terrain of difficult emotional knowledge in ways that have not been sufficiently addressed by the current rhetoric of critical pedagogy, I look to work that gestures toward a discourse of critical pedagogy which considers troubled knowledge as a source of fruitful and responsive learning. As it will be emphasized, this argument entails making pedagogical space for understanding troubled knowledge in more nuanced terms. This task requires a constant reconsideration of new pedagogical resources to enhance the potential of critical pedagogy; this article discusses three such resources: the significance of pedagogic discomfort, the pedagogical principle of mutual vulnerability, and the value of compassion and strategic empathy.     

The potential skills contribution of international students to South Africa

Abstract

There has been a significant increase in the number of international students, especially in those from other African countries, at South African universities over the last ten years. This has elicited some research, notably from Ramphele, Crush and McDonald (1999); Hall (2004); and Snowball and Antrobus (2005; 2006). However, none of these scholars considered the possibility of exploiting the skills potential of international students in South Africa, especially at a time when the country faces skills shortages. The authors conducted a survey at six higher education institutions (HEIs) in 2008, which sought to determine the skills profiles of international students in South Africa. It was found that the majority of international students are registered in disciplines where skills shortages exist, that a significant number of these students are young and that many would like to remain and work in South Africa. Labour policy makers in South Africa seem to be unaware of this, hence policy is ill-adapted to derive economic benefits from international students.     

Audiences,metaphors, and the Persian Gulf war

This paper examines George Bush's Persian Gulf war addresses as a representative anecdote of Bush's campaign to build an international military coalition. The paper argues that in war rhetoric international audiences should be considered. A theorization of the international audience is offered. George Bush's public speeches are then analyzed as they use two metaphoric clusters. The SAVAGE cluster is used to justify a response to Iraq's 1990 invasion of Kuwait. The CIVILIZATION cluster is used to justify an American‐led military response. The metaphoric clusters are shown to be persuasive to the international audience as they are adopted and recirculated by this audience. Conclusions and implications of the interaction of these two metaphoric clusters for future war rhetoric are offered.     

Librarians Connecting Scholars Through the American Culture Center Program in China

This article describes and discusses the changing roles of librarians in internationalization of higher education; how librarians lead the program of the American Cultural Center in China sponsored by the U.S. Department of State; and the benefits and challenges for leading an international project.
