Enriched or latent cosmopolitanism? Identity negotiations of female international students from Japan in the US

Drawing from a qualitative study with 13 female international students from Japan to the United States, this article examines ways in which studying abroad has impacted the students' social and ethnic identities. Findings indicate that while the students did experience social marginalization, they did actively resist it and individually and collectively tried to find ways to integrate in their new social context. Furthermore, and while the students' discussions expressed a strong ethnic identity upon relocation, they did not plan to go back to their native country upon graduation. The discussion centres on the theoretical contributions of this work and attempts to identify directions for institutions of higher education that enroll international students.

The authors reflect on commonalities in planning, recruiting, preparing students, and conducting each trip, as well as some of the differences in the experiences for both students and faculty.

Tagore's vision of international education can help to prevent misunderstanding and war, promote peace, foster multiculturalism, connect human beings, and celebrate their common heritage     

Educational Visions from Two Continents: What Tagore adds to the Deweyan perspective

In this global village, it is relevant to look at two educational visionaries from two continents, John Dewey and Rabindranath Tagore. Dewey observed that the modern individual was depersonalized by the industrial and commercial culture. He, thus, envisioned a new individual who would find fulfillment in maximum individuality within maximum community, which was embodied in his democratic concept and educational philosophy. Tagore's educational vision was based on India's traditional philosophy of harmony and fullness. It focused on self‐realization within the context of international education. This article compares the educational visions of Dewey and Tagore and demonstrates that Tagore's international educational perspective adds to Dewey's concepts of social individual and democracy and that their perspectives have implications for contemporary education.

生产企业物流人才需求的调查研究

有统计表明,超过67％的生产企业其产成品物流费用占销售额5％以上,而作为中国制造业比较集中的苏州地区,制造商物流业务情况值得研究。调查当前苏州地区生产企业物流人才需求情况,发现其招聘岗位主要有仓管类、采购类、物料控制类、关务类、国际贸易类、船务类等,而物流人才需求的学历则以大专、中专为主。     

中国林化产品国际竞争力评价

采用业绩指标和质量指标对中国林化产品国际竞争力进行评价,并界定出8类主要林化产品,研究发现,中国松香、活性炭、松节油和糠醛的国际竞争力极强,但质量及附加值偏低;活性炭、栲胶和松节油的净贸易条件恶化;中国林化产品整体国际竞争力较弱,但出口质量却逐年提高。

我国电站设备企业国际竞争力指标体系分析

在经济全球化环境下,市场竞争愈加激烈,如何提高企业国际竞争力成为一个亟待解决的问题。首先简要分析国内外电站设备企业的发展情况,界定了电站设备企业国际竞争力的基本内涵,分析影响我阁电站设备企业发展的主要因素,在此基础上进行评价指标体系的设计,从而为我国电站设备企业提高国际竞争力提供理论和实践的指导作用。     

区域经济增长的物流支持研究——基于湖南数据的协整检验和VEC模型分析

根据1982--2006年的湖南年度数据对区域经济增长的物流支持进行研究,选取影响区域物流发展水平的四个重要因素作为指标,对湖南经济增长与物流发展之间的关系进行协整检验并建立向量误差修正模型,验证了它们的长期均衡关系和短期修正效应.结果表明湖南经济增长与物流发展之间存在协整关系,湖南经济的发展需要进一步的物流支持.
