In an object-based storage system, a novel scheme named EAP (extending attributes page) is presented to enhance the metadata reliability of the system by adding the user object file information attributes page for each user object and storing the file-related attributes of each user object in object-based storage devices. The EAP scheme requires no additional hardware equipments compared to a general method which uses backup metadata servers to improve the metadata reliability. Leveraging a Markov chain, this paper compares the metadata reliability of the system using the EAP scheme with that using only metadata servers to offer the file metadata service. Our results demonstrate that the EAP scheme can dramatically enhance the reliability of storage system metadata. 相似文献

There has been considerable interest in generic attributes in higher education for over a decade and yet while generic skills
or attributes are an important aspect of policy, there is often a lack of consistency between beliefs about the importance
of these skills and attributes and the degree to which exist in teaching practice. There has been an assumption that these
attributes exist outside of the disciplinary context, yet the findings of this study suggest that they are strongly influenced
by the disciplinary culture in which they are taught. The study reported in this paper examines the apparent gap between ideal
notions of generic attributes and their enactment in teaching practice. This qualitative study examined the teaching of generic
attributes in five disciplines (physics, history, economics, medicine and law) in two Australian universities. It found that
the notion of generic attributes is highly complex and while attributes such as critical thinking, problem solving and communication
are valued by teaching staff they are often implicit in teaching. This gap between what is valued and what is actually taught
is a result of variation in interpretation of generic attributes, the difficulties of reducing complex attributes to definable
learning outcomes and practical constraints on teaching caused by factors such as large classes. Furthermore, it can be explained
by the finding that generic attributes are part of the epistemic culture of the disciplines and often remain tacit. The findings
of this study have significant implications for scholarship, policy and pedagogy.

In this article, results are presented from a large‐scale online survey about the motivations of career change students, and their beliefs about the attributes that they bring to the teaching profession. The findings revealed that career changers' motivations were largely intrinsic, although pragmatic decisions were also important, with perceived family‐friendliness of a teaching career a common response. These findings generally support findings of previous research into motivations to teach, as found in the literature. The data examined in this paper also revealed that career change entrants believed that the most important attributes they bring to teaching are life experiences, generic workplace skills and experience, and personal qualities, rather than specific content knowledge. These findings provide support for the continued targeting of career change people into the profession, particularly in the current policy context in which some stakeholders express concerns about a perceived lack of quality of teaching in Australian schools. 相似文献

Given global uncertainty related to rapid technological developments and the world of work, alongside other equally (if not more) concerning social and political disruptions – the assurance of graduate attributes of importance to employability and citizenship are arguably more important than ever. In this paper, we investigate three areas of practice by Australian universities, and non-university higher education providers who have been omitted from past analyses of this kind. First, we examine the graduate attributes most frequently published by institutions and discipline groups and whether emphasis has changed over time. Second, we investigate how graduate attributes are assured, including a scan of the inputs put in practice by higher education providers, and comparison of graduate and employer perceptions of achievement gathered through recent national surveys. Third, we connect our findings in the first two areas and make recommendations for the attributes needed to equip 2020+ graduates for citizenship and employability. Based on these analyses, we recommend that all providers, university and non-university, and the discipline groups within them: make graduate attributes more visible to the public and especially to students; continue embedding them in the assessed curricula, but also ensure that assessment is explicit and that attributes are communicated and explained repeatedly throughout the course; continue to use stakeholder perception measures, but more consistently align skills in data collection instruments to allow a more constructive comparison, and also draw on more objective measures such as actual assessment of achievement; continue to emphasise attributes associated with global citizenship, teamwork and communication; give more emphasis to independence, critical thinking and problem-solving, and the fundamental foundational skills of written and spoken communication. Most importantly, continue to revise the attributes regularly to ensure fitness for purpose in the rapidly changing environment within which we and our graduates operate. 相似文献
