Choosing a specialty school involves huge challenges for families. This research aims to understand the behavioral process that leads families to choose among various specialty school programs. Discrete choice models, based on revealed preferences data from middle school applications in a large school district in Florida, are estimated using both, the top and all-ranked alternatives. This study returns insights into geographic settings, theme specialties and socioeconomic characteristics of applicants, schools and their relationships. Distance from home, the school’s academic quality, the school’s theme specialty, and the high percentage of applicant’s own race are found to be the strongest factors related to the decision to apply.  相似文献

ABSTRACT

Small primary schools have often been criticized for their staff's inevitably limited cur‐ ricular expertise and consequent difficulty in providing a full National Curriculum for their pupils. Yet in terms of standards of attainment and quality of teaching such schools are rated rather more favourably than larger ones in OFSTED inspections. Based on an investigation of policy and practice in thirteen small primary schools this article attempts to examine the reality of small schools’ planning and implementation of National Curriculum requirements at Key Stage 2 and suggests possible reasons for their ‘better’ performance, at least as judged by OFSTED inspectors.  相似文献

基于教学内容体系研究能优化了教学内容,科学合理地安排教学内容和教学顺序,对实现教学内容从预设向生成转变,实现知识、能力和素质的协调发展有着重要的意义和价值。文章运用文献资料法、数理统计分析法、平衡计分法、归纳演绎等研究方法对体育教育专业篮球专修课各项教学内容的重要程度、教学难度进行了探讨,研究表明:教学与训练、教学理论与方法、技战术理论知识、临场指挥为重要内容,临场指挥、裁判实习、战术教学、训练规则与裁判法、科学研究方法、教练员素养在教学中难度最大,为优化选择教学内容,科学合理地安排篮球专修课教学内容和教学顺序提供理论依据。  相似文献

This study explored the footsteps of specialist physical education teachers in Singapore’s primary schools. In particular, this paper uncovered the physical education teacher training in Singapore during post-colonial days, ground situations leading to the rise of the specialist physical education teachers and government policies influencing the increase of them in primary schools. Document analysis was employed to trace the development of teachers teaching physical education in Singapore’s primary schools since the 1950s. The focus was on how this development influences the position of specialist physical education teachers in primary schools. The key role of the primary school physical education teacher has changed from a teacher whose focus was on physical fitness to a teacher who looks to develop pupils holistically through pupil-centric sports and outdoor activities. A generalist teacher that did not specialize in physical education is no longer suitable to teach physical education. Government policies and initiatives such as the robust recruitment of physical education teachers and the continuation of the Diploma in Physical Education programme have had a direct impact on the increasing number of primary school specialist physical education teachers. However, this increase is still insufficient. A concerted effort must be made by the school management to prioritize the quality of physical education lessons and sports programmes.  相似文献

英国教育体制由于沿袭地方分权制的传统,教师历来对学校课程有着极大的控制权。但是,1988年国家课程改革,特别是国家统一课程体系建立后,教师对课程的控制权日渐式微。随着国家课程改革实践的深入,国家课程刻板且缺乏灵活性的特征也显现出来。2000年和2008年制定的新国家课程标准针对国家课程的这一弊端进行了改革。在这两次国家课程标准的改革中,特色学校计划被引入,并逐渐确立了以特色促统一的国家课程改革走向。  相似文献

This article explores the development of a professional learning community through a case study of three teachers – an ESOL specialist, a literacy specialist, and a fifth-grade teacher – who engaged in co-teaching and collaboration. The emerging community of practice offered these teachers a space to learn and problem-solve by utilizing their specialized disciplinary knowledge of students and expanding the application of reading strategies during language arts. Concurrently, opportunities for revising curriculum and instruction remained unrealized, as teachers struggled to negotiate roles and responsibilities within the top-down administratively initiated collaboration that required redefining their professional community.
