Predictive validity of a competence-based admission test − mentors’ assessment of student teachers’ occupational aptitude

The aim of this longitudinal study was to gain an understanding of how Swiss student teachers (n = 253), who had passed a competence-based admission test, were assessed by their mentors after the first year of teaching. The results revealed a high correlation between the students’ initial cross-curricular competencies (CCC) and their mentors’ subsequent assessment. A regression analysis showed that the students’ initial CCC had the strongest impact on their subsequent competence development in relation to teaching, whereas cognitively oriented measures, including a cognitive ability test, did not add to the prediction. Qualitative analysis of mentors’ assessments revealed different patterns of low performing students’ competence development in relation to mentors’ support. Students with low self-confidence seemed to particularly benefit from shared reflection and a good mentee-mentor relationship.     

Teachers’ occupational attributes and their psychological wellbeing,job satisfaction,occupational self-concept and quitting intentions

Little is known about the determinants of teachers' psychological wellbeing, job satisfaction, occupational self-concept and quitting intentions. In this paper, teachers' occupational attributes (i.e. professional and personal characteristics) were investigated as determinants. Henceforth, the Educator Motivation and Attribute Profile (EdMAP) scales were used to describe the nature of 1109 Hong Kong primary and secondary school teachers' occupational attributes. Furthermore, the relationships with the teacher outcomes were investigated. Construct validity and reliabilities of the EdMAP scales were satisfactory. The results showed positive associations between teachers’ occupational attributes and their wellbeing, job satisfaction, and self-concept, and negative associations with quitting intentions.

我国职业声望研究二十年述评

声望地位是社会分层理论家们关注的一个热点问题,职业声望反映了职业分层的主观维度。文章从职业声望调查研究方法、职业声望研究的内容包括职业声望的社会评价、自我评价、评价标准或影响因素及比较研究等方面全面总结了我国二十年来职业声望研究的基本状况,并着重从方法和理论层面进行了评价,指出目前职业声望的研究方法有待规范、职业声望研究理论的本土化工作有所进展但尚显不够以及对职业声望评价的理论和实践意义发掘不足等问题。     

和谐文化在职业教育中的构建研究

职业教育的文化缺失导致了学生与自我、他人、社会的不和谐现象。因而,应当从确立和谐教育理念出发,通过人文教育使学生自身内心世界平衡、学会与他人、社会相处;创新高职教育课程体系,通过增设人文学科课程,创新教学模式,在专业教育中渗透素质教育;创建富于职业教育特色的和谐校园文化氛围等方面来构建和谐文化,使职业教育得以更大发展。
