Using technology-enhanced,cooperative, group-project learning for student comprehension and academic performance

Cooperative learning may improve students' motivation, understanding of course concepts, and academic performance. This study therefore enhanced a cooperative, group-project learning technique with technology resources to determine whether doing so improved students' deep learning and performance. A sample of 118 engineering students, randomly divided into two groups, participated in this study and provided data through questionnaires issued before and after the experiment. The results, obtained through analyses of variance and structural equation modelling, reveal that technology-enhanced, cooperative, group-project learning improves students' comprehension and academic performance.     

基于Delphi的计算机二级上机考试系统的设计与实现

我们采用Delphi作为开发工具,开发出计算机等级考试程序设计的上机网络考试系统,此系统能够充分挖掘现有资源,不增加新的投入,它能避免少数学生由于对软盘的操作命令出错或磁盘损坏,造成学生考试成绩发生错误,对学生的身心健康造成很大的伤害.此系统投入使用后,学校将不再投资给学生买软盘,可以为学校节约很大一笔教学开支.5年内全省可节约300万元的资金,具有一定的经济与社会效应.     

Introduction to “Racial Inequality and Education: Patterns and Prospects for the Future”

Abstract

American society is in the midst of profound economic and demographic changes. At the same time that the racial and ethnic composition of American society is changing, disparities in income and wealth have grown wider and more pronounced than ever before. This article explores the ways in which race is implicated in the widening gaps in wealth and opportunity, and how these inequities impact educational achievement.

Juni 1999 zu der EGB-UNICE-CEEP-Rahmenvereinbarung über befristete Arbeitsvertr?ge ist dahin auszulegen, dass sie einer nationalen Regelung, die bei missbr?uchlicher Inanspruchnahme aufeinanderfolgender befristeter Arbeitsvertr?ge oder -verh?ltnisse durch einen Arbeitgeber des ?ffentlichen Sektors ausschlie?t, dass diese in unbefristete Arbeitsvertr?ge oder -verh?ltnisse umgewandelt werden, w?hrend eine solche Umwandlung bei Arbeitsvertr?gen oder -verh?ltnissen mit einem Arbeitgeber des Privatsektors vorgesehen ist, grunds?tzlich nicht entgegensteht, sofern diese Regelung eine andere wirksame Ma?nahme enth?lt, um die missbr?uchliche Inanspruchnahme aufeinanderfolgender befristeter Arbeitsvertr?ge durch einen Arbeitgeber des ?ffentlichen Sektors zu verhindern und gegebenenfalls zu ahnden.     

Knowledge Capabilities of Local Government in the Context of Decentralisation in Ukraine

Abstract

There is an increasing actualisation of the knowledge component of the institutional capacity of local self-government authorities in Ukraine within ongoing decentralisation. The issue that arises concerns the officials’ knowledge sufficiency to generate and implement new ideas on the territories’ development, and the availability of unique skills for the development of relevant programmes, projects and plans. Herein, the analysis of the real knowledge needs of officials, whose sphere of competence lies in decision-making about the territories’ ways of development as well as their practical implementation, plays an important role. The article presents the results of a study of the opinions of local self-government officials of united territorial communities (UTCs) from the Dnipropetrovsk, Sumy, Zhytomyr, Kherson and Poltava regions of Ukraine, concerning their level of knowledge on the territories’ management; their needs for additional knowledge; the most common and convenient ways of obtaining knowledge; and the most problematic areas where the new knowledge is most demanded. The obtained data and the conclusions drawn can be considered, in particular, as an informational basis for the formation of training programmes and plans, cases and tasks for specialists training in the field of public administration.     

Beauty and Character: Values Beyond Beauty in Architecture

Formalist conceptions of aesthetic goals began to give way from the 17^th century on to rationalist accounts of experience. Beauty as described as essential by Renaissance thinkers was reconceived as just one possibility, with the sublime in Burke's account as another. In the early 20^th century Clive Bell again asserted a formalist position with his argument for significant form. The weakness of the formality position, and the need for a richer, more contextual account of aesthetic goals and experience is argued with reference to the idea of thick and thin concepts as applied by Bernard Williams to ethics, Wittgenstein's attention to the way in which language is used in a specific context, and Scruton's emphasis on an informed conception of the object of aesthetic attention. Beauty, in Alberti's procedural account if not in his version of the Platonic ideal, can be seen to continue to have critical value. The idea of character, however, offers a broader range of possibilities for experience and of goals for design.     

EUTECTOID STRUCTURES IN NICKEL-ALUMINIUM BRONZES

This paper discusses the microstructure of nickel-aluminium bronzes con-taining(9-10)wt% Al and(0.1～5)wt% Ni,in which three eutectoids may exist.Themorphologies of α+γ_2 and α+β'_2 are similar but the latter is finer.In the α+β'_2+γ_2eutectoid structure β'_2 is mainly concentrated at the α/β boundaries,while γ_2 is distrib-uted inside prior B regions.Both K-S and N-W orientation relationships exist betweenα and β'_2(or γ_2)in alloys consisting of α+β'_2 or α+γ_2.However,if the alloy consists ofα+β'_2+γ_2 eutectoid,the lattices of β'_2 and γ_2 are parallel,both of them have the N-Worientation relationship with α.     

A preliminary study of multiple college admission criteria in Taiwan: the relationship among motivation,standardized tests,high school achievements,and college success

ABSTRACT

A new college admission policy will be implemented in Taiwan in 2022. The purpose of this study was to understand the relationship between admission criteria and college success. Data was obtained from the Taiwan Higher Education Database; a sample size of 8443 students from 156 universities was used in this study. By using the structural equation model, this study tested a research model that included factors such as motivation, standardized test scores, high school achievements, and college success. The findings revealed that the General Scholastic Ability Test scores (in Chinese, English, Social Studies) and high school average academic grades are significantly associated with college success. A student’s motivation to complete a certain major can significantly predict the quality of student effort and influence college success. These findings highlight the importance of some admission criteria and provide practical implications for educational policy-makers, school administrators, students, and parents.
