The self experience of the gifted person: Theory and definitions

Recent articles on the gifted self are characterized by theoretical confusion and lack of definitional clarity. This article, anchored in current self psychology theory, defines the self experience as the person's subjective experience of organization and meaning, the maintenance of which is crucial to normal functioning. Interactions with others are a formative part of the self experience. Traits of giftedness, and the reactions of others to these, contribute to the gifted self experience. Social and emotional problems of giftedness, such as those that arise with asynchronous development and perfectionism, are based on a compromised sense of cohesion and unity of the self experience.

法兰克福学派的重要成员瓦尔特·本雅明的文化批判思想是该学派的重要理论建树"否定辩证法"和"启蒙辩证法"的直接思想来源,然而他本人的理论关怀却远远超越了单纯的否定与批判,而是在对资产阶级意识形态解构之后寻求积极的建构,表现了一个人文知识分子对历史与社会的高度伦理责任感.但他的批评方法极其独特,是神学与马克思主义的奇妙结合,因此他对资本主义现代性的批判以弥赛亚主义的救赎为目的.他认为这样一个乌托邦原本是人类的本原,是在现代性中被打破的,所以批评的终极指归是重建本原.由此,他的整个理论关怀用他所喜爱的名言来概括,即"本原就是目标".本文以德法文论的差异走向为背景,以本氏思想与这一背景的关系为参照,勾勒出他的文化批判思想和哲学方法论的地形图,使他的这一思想主线一目了然.

Historical Frameworks and Sporting Research

Abstract

In recent years, there has been a wealth of research into how the game of association football developed. However, rather than establishing a common theme this research has led to competing theories with the debate dividing opinion on how the game of football was developed and propagated. While debate is healthy, the approach taken by some could lead to fellow academics looking to those engaged in sport history as unprofessional. This paper seeks to propose a way forward with academics working towards an all-encompassing history of the sport, by suggesting the adoption of a framework based on the work of Fernand Braudel, where indepth analysis of individual events is combined with the identification of transformational cycles. The paper concludes by suggesting that historians interested in soccer’s early history work together within the framework to develop a more detailed and all-encompassing early history of the sport. This framework will not claim that either the orthodox or revisionist view is accurate, instead it will determine how best to work those debates into an all-encompassing approach while searching for detailed evidence on what was actually occurring at local levels.

Using Google Forms to track library space usage

This article is a response to the excellent “Using Mobile Technology to Observe Student Study Behaviors and Track Library Space Usage” by Susan Thompson. Thompson reviews the literature regarding user counts on mobile devices and describes the California State University San Marcos (CSUSM) Library's evaluation of SUMA, Counter+, and CloudOn. After trialing these mobile technologies, CSUSM selected CloudOn. At New York University Abu Dhabi, we use Google Forms to conduct user counts on an iPad and Google Sheets to evaluate these data. We find that Google Forms are easy to set up, modify as necessary, and present the data in easy-to-manipulate spreadsheets.     

论阿拉伯哲学方法论在历史上的两次转变

阿拉伯哲学具有理性主义的哲学方法论特征，因为它已经具有了其基本要素：理性主义的内在精神、形式结构和基本原理。但是，在12-13世纪以后，特别是以苏菲派为代表的宗教哲学思想成为主流意识形态以后，阿拉伯哲学方法论抛弃了理性主义而走向了神秘主义，与东方其他民族文明的哲学方法论观念和思维传统逐步接近，完成了它在其逻辑历史发展过程中的两次转变。
