Teachers’ experiences of a single‐sex initiative in a co‐education school

Argued to ‘raise boys’ grades’ and ‘boost boys’ academic achievement’, single‐sex classes in coeducation schools is one strategy among a plethora aimed at raising standards. This paper explores the experiences of teachers in one coeducation post‐primary school that sought to raise academic performance, particularly among boys, and to improve classroom behaviour by introducing single‐sex classes. Funded by a local Education and Library Board the evaluation took place almost four years after the strategy was introduced and in a climate of increasing teacher concern with the effectiveness of the strategy. The methods involved a questionnaire survey to all teachers in the school and one‐to‐one and small group interviews with teachers responsible for teaching single‐sex classes. Contrary to its stated aims, the majority of teachers believe that, since the introduction of single‐sex classes, academic performance and classroom behaviour have deteriorated. Findings are discussed in terms of teachers’ perceptions of the strategy and the importance organizational and contextual factors have on shaping teachers’ attitudes to new initiatives.

《米》的主人公五龙是文学画廊中流氓无产者的典型形象。苏童把五龙的情欲世界作为观察人性的一个重要窗口。情欲作为一种本能,它是人类最强烈的生命意志体现。我们通过对五龙的情欲世界的探秘,可以透视这个流氓无产者的精神深处的隐秘,揭示他疯狂占有女性发泄罪恶欲望的贪婪本性。在五龙眼里,情欲带上了天然的暴力色彩,它与爱情无缘,而只是发泄仇恨和反抗压迫的符号。     

浅析英语中的性别歧视现象

英语的传统和规范用法中存在着明显的性别歧视。从称呼语、句法层次、构词及语义4个方面分析了英语中存在的各种性别歧视现象,提出了消除英语中性别歧视的若干方案,并最终得出结论,即消除性别歧视现象依然任重道远。     

“性贿赂”应纳入贿赂罪

“性贿赂”已成为一个不可忽视的社会公害, 但我国刑法并未将其纳入调整范畴。实际上, “性贿赂”具有严重的社会危害性, 侵犯的是国家管理制度和国家工作人员职务的廉洁性, 许多国家和地区都规定“性贿赂”是犯罪, 我国签署并加入的《联合国反腐败公约》也规定为犯罪, 我国刑法也应将它纳入贿赂罪。     

‘It's got to be about enjoying yourself’: young people,sexual pleasure,and sex and relationships education

Pleasure as a component of sexualities and relationships education (SRE) has been subject to much recent discussion. Arguably, academic debate has been more prominent than practitioner perspectives, with theoretical articulations and critique superseding pragmatic attention to integrating pleasure into learning about sexualities and relationships. Though there are exceptions, sexuality education that recognises pleasure and desire for young people remains absent in many contexts, despite calls for its inclusion for more than two decades. This paper offers a synthesis of expert opinion to outline the importance of pleasure and positive SRE to sexual health, rights, equality and safeguarding against coercion and harm. The paper acknowledges the often uneasy associations between sexuality, education and youth by identifying key political and academic debates, before offering a rationale on ways forward that may help persuade curriculum gatekeepers of its merits. Analysis focuses mainly on young women with reflections on current knowledge and the need for more empirically based research and theorising on boys and men. Policy developments relate to the UK, though issues raised have direct relevance for contexts where SRE is similarly contested.

Slappers who gouge your eyes: vocal performance as exemplification of disturbing inertia in gender equality

This article is based upon a full‐time study of masculinity and singing funded by the Arts and Humanities Research Council (AHRC). Empirical work was conducted with boy performers and ‘peer audiences’ for those performers in schools. The article focuses on girls’ attitudes to boy singers and reveals a significant difference between primary and secondary schooling. In primary schools, girls are the more responsible for discouraging boys but in secondary schools the male peer group becomes more critical whilst girls increasingly perceive boy singers as ‘cute’. It is possible to construct a strong case for single‐sex groupings but the empirical work suggests this may turn out to be misguided. The article concludes that there is an urgent need for girls and boys to learn mutual respect in the context of the music class. The evidence suggests that teachers require a significantly enhanced level of gender‐related subject knowledge, gender awareness and interpersonal skill.     

论网络儿童色情犯罪的特征及防治

网络儿童色情犯罪是一种新型犯罪,它与传统色情犯罪相较,具有自身特征:犯罪成本低、效益高;犯罪人网络特征是“虚幻”的;惩治极其困难;具有极强的社会危害性等。当前,网络儿童色情犯罪在全球已泛滥成灾,引起了世界各国的高度重视。西方主要国家纷纷采取措施予以打击,网络儿童色情犯罪得以遏制。我国与西方主要国家相比,在网络儿童色情犯罪打击防治方面还存有较大差距。需立足本国,借鉴西方国家的一些先进经验,对现有的防治措施予以不断完善。
