Aspects of consistency and inconsistency in secondary humanities PGCE courses with ‘perfect’ Ofsted grades

Abstract

Detailed enquiry into the learning process requires in‐depth case studies of individual learners, which involves the ‘subjects’ in considerable time commitments, and the risk of exposing their personal limitations as learners. Case studies into learning can be informative for the researcher, but could also be threatening to the researched. The present article considers a research project where a key principle was that the ‘research subjects’ should feel that they were benefiting from being involved in the research. The students who committed time to the project were considered to be colearners. The core of the article is a dialogue constructed around one colearner's comments, as a narrative device to illustrate the frustrations and rewards of being the ‘subject’ of the research process. The extent to which the composed text can be considered to represent the authentic voice of the colearner is discussed.     

An empirical framework for understanding how teachers conceptualize and cultivate historical empathy in students

This study reports the results of a case study of four teachers' beliefs about the nature of historical empathy and their means of cultivating such empathy in secondary school classrooms. The results of multiple interviews and lesson observations of history teachers in England suggest that teachers conceptualize empathy in bounded but not parsimonious ways, shaped by the realities of trying to teach it to students; that they select from broad repertoires of strategies, including major activities as well as small‐scale discourse strategies, heretofore largely unexamined; and that they recognize ways in which their empathetic goals exist in tension with other teaching aims, creating dilemmas they must manage rather than definitively resolve. Significant discrepancies between how these teachers actually think and practice and how empathy teaching is discussed in the educational literature suggest that research stands to benefit by attending more closely to teachers' ideas.     

基于偏移场模型的空变失真图像序列的视频稳定化技术

基于动态偏移场模型,本文提出了一种适用于空变失真图像序列的视频稳定化技术。以空不变图像序列的运动滤波技术为基础,采用空变图像序列的运动估计和频域滤波技术实现了透视失真序列的稳定化。实验结果表明,经稳定化处理后的透视失真视频序列,高频抖动被滤除,图像序列呈现出稳定的透视失真现象。如果已知失真的物理机理,实现稳定化的同时还可以实现透视失真的校正。该技术不仅可以应用在视频稳定化系统中,还可以应用到其他空变失真图像序列的失真校正领域。

论高校教师的隐性流失

高校教师隐性流失是指高校教师人事隶属关系与其精力分配发生错位,教师将主要精力和注意力转移到兼职上,弱化本职工作效率的一种行为。隐性流失较之于显性流失更具有隐秘性和不可控性,所以它不仅会影响教学质量而且还会降低学校凝聚力。为此,采取有效措施防止教师隐性流失,提高教学质量,应是现代大学制度建设的一个重要议题,教师团队建设对我国高等教育的可持续发展具有重要意义。     

Listening to children’s views of spiritual and metaphysical concepts: A new dimension to educational psychology practice?

Educational psychologists (EPs) have for many years been developing techniques for listening to children. The aim of the present research was to investigate ways of listening to the “spiritual” views of children in order to develop questions that educational psychologists might use as part of the assessment repertoire. The study explored children’s spiritual concepts such as their purpose for “being on the planet” and the “meaning of their life”. The findings suggest that primary and secondary school children from mixed religious backgrounds can respond to spiritual questions in a clear way. In addition, most children believed that spiritual views influence how children behave. Further research is required to explore whether children’s views of spiritual concepts are linked to learning and progress in school and in life.
