Insiders’ perspectives: a children's rights approach to involving children in advising on adult-initiated research

Consulting with children is widely recognised as an essential element in building understanding about children's lives. From a children's rights perspective, it is also a legal requirement on professionals working with children. However, translating the rhetoric into research and practice is still evolving. Previous studies report on working with children as co-researchers where children are involved in different phases of the research process in a bid to provide their unique perspectives. This small-scale study takes the view that children not only have the right to be involved in the research process but they also have the right to be informed and have their understanding developed about the issues being researched. This allows for a more apprised view which can enhance children's participation in advising on the research and interpreting data. Therefore, this small-scale study reports on working with a children's research advisory group in developing their understanding about popular culture and writing in the primary classroom before involving these children as advisors in the research process.     

Plastic people in pinstripe suits: an exploration of the views of Irish parents on the publication of school league tables

While the publication of school league tables is prohibited by law in Ireland, the publication of data categorising university placements achieved per school has become common practice. A central argument advanced in this endeavour includes the provision of information for parents. The views of parents on this issue have, until now, not been explored in Ireland. The current paper outlines the findings of a national survey of 1915 parents on the publication of school league tables. The findings of this research highlight a widespread rejection of the practice. Concerns surrounding the narrowing of educational experience, the intensification of performance pressures and the rise of elitism in schools were noted. Calls for greater teacher accountability were also noted and deemed to transcend the publication of school league tables.     

A meta-ethnographic understanding of children and young people's experiences of extended school non-attendance

The views of the children and young people experiencing Extended School Non-Attendance difficulties are scarcely represented in the literature. This systematic literature review provides a much needed overview of the existing research evidence through a detailed synthesis of the lived experiences of persistently non-attending young people, using a meta-ethnographic approach. Ten qualitative, UK-based papers were selected and analysed, each of which focused specifically on the direct views of school non-attenders. Using Noblit and Hare's seven-step approach, the analysis generated seven themes: (1) difficult relationships with peer group; (2) inconsistent relationships with and support from adults; (3) negative experiences of school transition; (4) negative experiences of learning in school; (5) emotional wellbeing and mental health needs; (6) others' negative perceptions of the individual's needs; (7) personal beliefs about attendance. Through reciprocal translation of these themes, the overarching higher-order concept was developed relating to the impact of a sense of school belonging. The implications of this review include an enhanced emphasis on the need to gather young people's views early and to use their preferred terminology when discussing their difficulties. While outside the scope of this paper, further research should look to the translation into policy and practice in this area.

电子政务项目审计是政府审计部门在信息化环境下的一项重要的新的审计业务,是控制电子政务项目建设风险和提升电子政务应用绩效的重要途径。本文在分析电子政务项目审计国内外研究现状的基础上,提出了一种基于六视图的电子政务项目审计实施模式,分别从目标视图、组织视图、内容视图、过程视图、标准及法律法规视图、方法及技术视图等6个维度对电子政务项目审计的实施模式进行了研究,为电子政务项目审计提供了一种可行的项目审计实施模式。     

对俄罗斯文化史研究的思考

〕俄罗斯有着一千年的文化史,出现了一批举世闻名的科学家和艺术大师。１９世纪的俄罗斯文学达到了世界批判现实主义文学的最高峰。在俄罗斯历史上,伊凡雷帝和彼得大帝先后进行过各种改革。近些年来,俄罗斯文化史学者提出了一些值得注意的文化史观。这些观点对于我们研究中华民族的文明史和中国文化发展史,具有认识论和方法论的借鉴意义和参考价值。

少数民族地区高校大学生婚恋观探析——以贵州省黔南民族师范学院为例

对当代大学生的婚恋问题,学者们有不少研究,但对少数民族地区高校大学生和少数民族大学生婚恋问题研究还未见报道。文章以贵州省黔南民族师范学院为例,对出生地、年级、性别、民族等不同的大学生的婚恋问题进行研究,在分析影响因素的基础上,提出相应对策建议。     

论建设小康社会的人才战略

全面建设小康社会需要通过实施人才战略,合理开发利用人才资源,选用具有远见卓识的社会组织领路人,改革、创新现代教育,培养新型的管理人才和建设人才,提高全民的整体素质,才有可能实现既定的战略目标。     

Personalised learning for young people with social,emotional and behavioural difficulties

Limited research evidence pertains to the inter-related themes of personalised learning and curricular reform with young people who are disaffected with school or experience social, emotional and behavioural difficulties (SEBD). The Extended New Directions (END) project aimed to provide flexible and individualised education to help re-engage secondary school-aged young people. A mixed method research design evaluated the project. Quantitative data were gathered in respect of attendance, exclusion and achievement for the entire cohort of 30 young people. Self-report measures (focus group, semi-structured interviews and questionnaires) were used with randomly selected young people, parents and all stakeholders (n = 52). Analysis suggested that END was generally achieving its aims, and implications for future research, policy and practice are discussed.
