“心理距离说”讨论从事图书工作研究应具有的心态：换一种眼光看图书工作研究，不要仅看到其过程的苦与难的一面，更要看到其对社会的教育意义等有积极意义的一面；换一种态度看图书工作研究，摆脱功利与实用主义，摆脱常人看问题的方法，摆脱所谓的“正常视象”；换一种注意力审视客体，采用特殊审美注意去探索客体的内部本质；与实用、功利保持适当距离，不即不离，处理好图书工作与科研、研究与收益、理论与实践、研究成果与读者服务等几种关系。

Comparison and Classification of Documents Based on Layout Similarity

This paper describes features and methods for document image comparison and classification at the spatial layout level. The methods are useful for visual similarity based document retrieval as well as fast algorithms for initial document type classification without OCR. A novel feature set called interval encoding is introduced to capture elements of spatial layout. This feature set encodes region layout information in fixed-length vectors by capturing structural characteristics of the image. These fixed-length vectors are then compared to each other through a Manhattan distance computation for fast page layout comparison. The paper describes experiments and results to rank-order a set of document pages in terms of their layout similarity to a test document. We also demonstrate the usefulness of the features derived from interval coding in a hidden Markov model based page layout classification system that is trainable and extendible. The methods described in the paper can be used in various document retrieval tasks including visual similarity based retrieval, categorization and information extraction.

LNG罐柜在船上装载位置的安全性研究

为进一步提高液化天然气(liquefied natural gas,LNG)罐柜内河运输的安全性,研究LNG罐柜在船上装载位置的合理性。根据爆炸产生的火球模型和热辐射模型,考虑人员受到不同程度伤害的概率,建立LNG罐柜爆炸危害的系统动力学模型。利用系统动力学仿真软件Vensim_PLE模拟2个罐柜爆炸,得出结论：爆炸中心的热辐射强度最高,但在距爆炸中心一定距离处人员受到伤害的概率最大。为保证人员安全,船舶罐柜装载区与人员活动区应保持足够的安全距离。     

船舶能见度不良时近距离避让行为问卷调查与分析

为了全面了解船舶驾驶人员在能见度不良时近距离避让的行为情况和做好船舶碰撞事故的预防工作,笔者最近通过问卷调查的方法对２００多名船长和驾驶员进行了调查。本文简要介绍了这次问卷调查的目的、要求、方法与内容,就调查的统计与分析作了说明,并提出了一些有价值的结论供船舶安全管理与研究人员参考。     

解决短期高峰需求的成本效益策略

For most open universities, in fact for most universities, there will arise occasions when some online activities will have to be completed by all students in a very short time interval. These occasions usually result in a great rush to get online as quickly as possible; the rush is often made worst by the limited good choices on offer such that usually only the earliest can get the best. Choosing and confirming elective subjects, when only a limited number for each are offered, on a first-come-first-served basis is an example.At the Open University Malaysia the rush occurs when confirming offered subjects and choosing face-to-face meeting timetable. Most students rushed to be earliest to ensure choice slots in the timetable are obtained.Available I. T. resources such as Internet bandwidth and servers cannot cope with these short-term sustained peak demands. Unless these peak demands are met, however, online services will slow down drastically resulting in long queues of users waiting to be served. Providing excess capacity, if at all possible, to ensure these short duration peak demands can be met would not be cost-effective since most of the time these resources are not utilised. This paper will look at some cost-effective approaches to meeting these short-term peak demands.
