Leisure Activities and Personality Traits of Medical Librarians

Objectives: This study examines medical librarians’ personality based on their leisure activities to find out which personal characteristics prevail among working medical librarians.

Methods: An electronic survey was administered among medical librarians of the New England/South East regions. The collected statistics was compared to the national leisure statistics and previously published studies on personality traits.

Results: The respondent group exhibited prevailing Artistic, Investigative, and Conventional types, with a slightly higher number of introverts.

Conclusions: Personalities of the respondents fit into the job environment quite well, which could positively influence their interaction with patrons and the overall quality of work.     

Success of reiterative instruction: Looking at faculty-librarian collaboration to improve information literacy in political science education

The purpose of this case study was to ascertain if college students’ information literacy improves through a faculty-librarian collaboration involving a session of library instruction as part of a regular political science course. The authors conducted two surveys to determine if in-person library instruction increases students’ research abilities. The authors surveyed political science faculty to discover their attitudes toward library research instruction. They also surveyed political science students to gauge their opinions on the value of library instruction and to see if there is a connection between their research proficiencies and instruction by a librarian. Through this case study, the authors found that such instruction does improve information literacy. The researchers concluded that for faculty and colleges interested in improving information literacy skills in undergraduate political science students, such library instruction is helpful towards that goal.

Is Procrastination Related to Low-Quality Data?

While it is easy to assume that university students who wait until the last minute to complete surveys for their class research requirements provide low-quality data, this issue has not been empirically examined. The goal of the present study was to examine the relation between student research procrastination and two important data quality issues—careless responding and measurement noninvariance. Data gathered from university students across two semesters tentatively indicated that procrastination is related to low-quality survey data. Procrastination was slightly more problematic for certain data quality issues (measurement noninvariance) than others (careless responding). These relations, however, were small and contingent on how procrastination and careless responding were measured. Accordingly, it seems more beneficial for researchers to select a sampling window that supports their research goals and statistical power requirements rather than select a sampling window that attempts to minimize careless survey responding or other measurement issues.     

男子手枪速射从6″开始训练的实验研究

传统的手枪速射训练常采用8″—6″—4″递进式方法,但还有诸多不足。本文通过实验,对传统训练和从6″开始训练的效果进行了比较研究,结果表明:男子手枪速射从6″开始训练要优于传统训练,具有较强的可行性和实用性。     

Trends in mobile and outreach services

ABSTRACT

This paper reports on results of a questionnaire distributed to North American public libraries to determine what types of services they are providing to populations experiencing barriers to using bricks-and-mortar branches. The results indicate that many are offering homebound delivery and that bookmobiles remain popular, particularly in libraries serving large geographic areas. Some libraries are exploring kiosk, or vending machine style services. Lastly, new trends are emerging, notably pop-up libraries, vans, and book bikes.     

浅谈成人英语教学的“六关”

成人高等教育的发展和改革对成人教育提出了更高的要求，作为成人教育重要组成部分的英语教学，就显得尤为重要，根据成人英语教学的要求和特点，成人英语教学应把好“六关”，即：语音关，词汇关，语法关，阅读关，翻译关，听说写关。     

道统学说的创建和重建--韩愈和荻生徂徕比较之三

道统是儒家学派的重要概念。在历史上,中国唐代的韩愈率先明确提出了从尧传之孟子的传承谱系,承认道统由帝王向师儒的转移,以之抵抗老之家。时隔一千年,日本江户时代的荻生租徕在承认道统从尧至孔子一脉相承的同时,却对先王之道和儒家之道严加区分,否认孟子是先王学说的继承人,批判宋儒的学说观点,力图对传统的道统学说进行重建,恢复先王之道的治国天平下的政治性。通过韩愈和徂徕关于道统学说的比较研究,可以明白中国儒家学说在日本的流转、影响和日本儒学在批判、继承中国儒学基础上的独特发展。
