Why do UK academics become Associate Deans and what are their future career plans?

The role and number of Associate Dean posts in UK universities has grown considerably in recent years. Despite this, relatively little is known about the reasons why individuals take on such roles and how it fits into their career trajectories. The purpose of this article is to explore these issues by drawing on data from the first national study of Associate Deans in the UK. Adopting a two-staged mixed methods approach, data were collected from semi-structured interviews (n = 15) and an online survey (n = 172). The findings suggest that academics take on the role for a number of reasons such as the challenge of working across the University, making a difference to staff and students, or being asked to take it on by a senior member of staff. It is argued that these Associate Dean roles are part of new and emerging academic career pathways within the higher education sector.     

Transitioning from practicing teacher to teacher leader: a case study

Given US students’ lack of international competitiveness in mathematics and science, many states have adopted the Common Core State Standards for Mathematics (CCSSM). To help ensure that the Standards for Mathematical Practice within the CCSSM and effective teaching practices are implemented appropriately, many teachers are emerging as teacher leaders with the intent of supporting teachers with this implementation. Unfortunately, not all of these teachers are necessarily prepared in the field of teacher leadership. Recognizing the importance of having well-prepared teacher leaders, this article describes the case of Ms. Hodges, as she transitioned from mathematics teacher to teacher leader. Data revealed that several factors affected Ms. Hodges’ transition, some positively and others negatively. These results as well as implications for teacher leader development are provided.

学生干部队伍建设的好坏直接影响高校学生工作的成效。如何建设一支高效精干的学生干部队伍是辅导员的首要工作。学生干部的选拔是前提,培养是关键,管理是保障,这三个环节是高校学生干部队伍建设的核心,本文对这个核心进行了新的诠释。     

领导干部人格特质与管理能力类型的现状调查——以大连市局、处、科级公务员为中心

采用分层随机抽样的方法,运用16PF和霍兰德职业倾向测试对198名公务员暨局、处、科领导干部进行了调查。结果显示,领导干部人格特质总体优异,高于全国其他人群的调查结果,而且心理健康水平较高;科、处、局三级领导干部中,综合人格特质处级领导干部与其他两个级别比较差异显著;领导干部特殊人格特质中,心理健康因素优异,高于全国其他人群,而其他三个人格因素与其他人群相比较则有高有低;处级领导干部在专业有成就水平、新环境成长能力方面与其他两个级别差异显著;领导干部的职业类型为社会型、调研型、企业型、实际型,范围大,能力高;处级干部的调研型、企业型得分与其他两级别比差异显著。     

日本频获诺贝尔自然科学奖的影响因素分析

在中国科技的巨大进步为世界有目共睹的同时,如何培养世界级学者成为困扰我国科学界的重要课题。世界级学者的培养和形成受诸多因素的影响,邻国日本频获诺贝尔自然科学奖的经验为我们提供了很好的借鉴。本文通过分析日本政府的科研体制机制改革的动向,并聚焦日本科学技术振兴机构的科研管理机制和所资助的战略型基础研究的案例,得出了有助于世界级学者脱颖而出的科研经费制度、伯乐型评审专家和具有鉴别人才和技术能力的专业型科研管理人员的存在、跟踪式服务等因素对于日本频获诺贝尔自然科学奖起着不可或缺作用的结论。本文提出,今后我国除了制定明确的世界级人才培养战略目标之外,需要加大设置战略型基础研究项目的力度,尝试导入伯乐型项目负责人为核心的管理制度,对基础研究项目实施弹性化、跟踪式管理,打造能挖掘高潜力人才和技术的专业化科研管理人员队伍。     

进入战略、领导者风险偏好与中国跨国公司知识转移效果——基于控制的视角

跨国界知识转移有助于提高跨国公司的创新能力,日益得到学者和业界人士的重视。鉴于此,以中国跨国公司为研究对象,从控制的视角分析了进入战略两阶段(绿地/并购,独资/合资)选择对跨国公司总部与东道国分支机构之间知识转移效果的直接影响,并探究领导者风险偏好在这一影响过程中的调节效应。研究结果表明,相对于并购而言,绿地的控制力较高,更有利于中国跨国公司跨国界知识的有效转移;相对于合资而言,独资的控制力较高,更有利于中国跨国公司跨国界知识的有效转移;领导者风险偏好对绿地与并购选择影响中国跨国公司跨国界知识转移效果的调节作用不显著;领导者风险偏好加强了独资的控制力,正向调节了独资与合资选择对中国跨国公司跨国界知识转移效果的影响。     

文化差异对美资跨国公司总部知识转移影响研究

摘要：跨国公司内部知识跨国界转移的影响因素很多。本文以美资跨国公司为例,重点分析公司总部的知识转移能力、知识转移意愿、显性知识和社会化知识转移渠道丰富性对向在华子公司转移知识效果的影响。本文还借鉴Hofstede的民族文化模型,重点分析权力距离和男性-女性主义两个纬度上的文化差异对总部知识传播能力-知识转移渠道丰富性-知识转移效果之间关系的调节作用,并据此提出相应的提高跨文化知识转移效果的措施。     

The “Other” in the Crusading Period: Walter the Chancellor's Presentation of Najm al-Dīn Il-Ghāzī

This paper examines ideas surrounding the presentation of the Muslim “other” in Latin writings of the early period of the Crusades. Using a case-study approach of the views of one chronicler, Walter the Chancellor, in his work Bella Antiochena, on one individual Muslim, Najm al-Dīn Il-Ghāzī, the paper studies aspects of the image of Il-Ghāzī, the reasons for them, how and why they develop throughout the chronicle, and whether, from the other information given in the chronicle, it would be possible to interpret the information in other ways. The conclusions reached demonstrate that the reason for the vitriol in Walter's presentation was his wish to justify the Crusades and suggest that the writers of Outremer started to develop their own cross-cultural responses to Islam, independent of mainstream European thought, because of their situation.
