The World Wide Web is increasingly being used as a vehicle for flexible learning, where learning is seen to be free from time, geographical, and participation constraints. In addition to flexibility, the Web facilitates student-centered approaches, creating a motivating and active learning environment. The purpose of this study is to set up an adaptive learning environment on Internet and to experiment with the most suitable methods and applications. Our goal is to provide a better solution with regard to the related distance learning research. All the resources and background are from current relevant documents on the theory of asynchronous distance education. We set up an adaptive Internet learning system based on learning theory and related learning models. Our research targets are those students who took the ‘Life Chemistry’ course for the asynchronous distance education environment at Providence University at Taiwan. The students were divided randomly into two groups: the experimental group, which was in an adaptive learning environment and the controlled group, which was in a non-adaptive one. We used the American Chemistry Society Test Bank as our research tool and used SPSS to analyse the data we obtained. Results show that the experimental group in the adaptive learning environment out-performs the controlled group. In addition, those students who are field independent learning types, have higher pre-knowledge, are male, in science departments and have a longer study time span in an adaptive learning environment show much greater achievement levels than those in the opposite situations. 相似文献

ABSTRACTThe paper presents a theorisation of pedagogic knowledge formation, as a continuous attempt to understand the positions in discourse we occupy. The paper documents some participatory practitioner research by teacher educators centred on a course development initiative for student teachers of English, at an English university. Students researched their experiences of becoming a teacher within a course that was largely school-based, whilst their tutors researched their own involvement in the process (the main focus of this paper). Drawing on Lacanian theory, tutors are depicted as learning subjects having more or less certainty or doubt about the knowledge they possess. In attempting to understand this interplay of certainty and doubt, tutors arrive at stronger conceptualisations of learning. Through this approach, the paper provides a theoretically informed conception of professional knowledge, as involving a process of renewing ideas about learning, in meeting or resisting external demands. 相似文献

This study draws on recent research on the central role of representation in learning. While there has been considerable research
on students’ understanding of evaporation, the representational issues entailed in this understanding have not been investigated
in depth. The study explored students’ engagement with evaporation phenomena through various representational modes. The study
indicates how a focus on representation can provide fresh insights into the conceptual task involved in learning science through
an investigation of students’ responses to a structured classroom sequence and subsequent interviews over a year. A case study
of one child’s learning demonstrates the way conceptual advances are integrally connected with the development of representational
modes. The findings suggest that teacher-mediated negotiation of representational issues as students construct different modal
accounts can support enriched learning by enabling both (a) richer conceptual understanding by students, and (b) enhanced

This article describes strategies for redesigning the University of Missouri's Statewide Cooperative Ed.D. Cohort Program
in educational leadership. Results had suggested a need to redesign aspects of the program in order to achieve higher levels
of cognitive learning outcomes inclusive of transformational learning. To help meet this objective, the areas targeted for
redesign were the curriculum as it relates to issues of diversity and ethics, instruction as it relates to group dynamics
and cohort models, and increased time and a forum for students to reflect on their leadership practices. This forum also allowed
faculty to monitor and assess the transformational learning outcomes of their students. This article is meant to assist others
who are interested in fostering higher levels of transformational learning outcomes within their programs.
Meredith L. Mountford holds a Bachelor of Science degree from Illinois State University, a Master of Science degree in educational
administration from Northern Illinois University and a Philosophy of Science degree in educational administration from the
University of Wisconsin—Madison. She is an Assistant Professor and has served as Director for the Statewide Cooperative Ed.D.
