Is teacher attrition a poor estimate of the value of teacher education? A Swedish case

Far from all who complete teacher education end up working as teachers throughout their entire career. At first sight the value of teacher education, in terms of efficiency, seems to be a failure. In the present article we argue that teacher attrition, when defined as whether one is working as teacher or not, is a too blunt measure to gauge whether teacher education has been valuable. With a unique dataset, where we have detailed information on 87 Swedish teacher graduates’ working life across 23 years, we can consider whether activities and/or experiences point to an apparent use of teacher education. In conclusion, we find that in order to get informative estimates of its value it is important to consider it from different perspectives and to consider attrition related to the total working time spent in educational settings across a career rather than percentage leaving teaching after a set of years

试论改进中学英语课堂教学中的教师话语

教师话语占用的课堂时间越多，学生参与练习的机会就越少，教师话语的数量和质量的某种程度上会影响甚至决定课堂教学的成败。在分析了影响教师话语的因素以及目前教师话语在中学英语课堂教学中的使用状况这后，本文提出了改进教师话语的有效方法；改变教师在课堂上的角色，合理规划教师话语，改变单一的提问模式，对回答积极反馈。     

Teacher educators’ approaches to teaching and the nexus with self-efficacy and burnout: examples from two teachers’ universities in China

Teacher educators’ approaches to teaching, and their experience of burnout and self-efficacy beliefs, are related to how they are able to facilitate student teachers’ learning. In this study, 115 Chinese teacher educators responded to a questionnaire in 2015. Based on the previous study investigating the teacher educators’ approaches to teaching, the present study explored how these approaches were related to their self-efficacy beliefs in teaching and burnout. Burnout was measured through inadequacy in teacher-student interaction and exhaustion subscales. The analyses revealed that a student-focused approach to teaching among teacher educators was positively related to their self-efficacy beliefs in teaching. Both student- and teacher-focused approaches to teaching were positively related to the educators’ experience of inadequacy in teacher-student interaction. However, the study revealed no relationship between teacher educators’ approaches to teaching and the experience of exhaustion. To prevent feelings of inadequate interaction with their students, pedagogical training should provide these teacher educators with efficient guidance on how to interact with student teachers. The present study provides new insights in the teacher educators’ adoption of the student- and teacher-focused approaches to teaching.     

Impacts of Pre-Service Training and Coaching on Kindergarten Quality and Student Learning Outcomes in Ghana

Using a randomized-control trial, this study evaluates a program designed to support Ghanaian kindergarten student-teachers during pre-service training through mentorship and in-classroom training. Several potential barriers to improved teaching quality and learning outcomes are examined. Findings show that the program improved knowledge and implementation of the national curriculum for individuals both when they were student-teachers and, the following year, when they became newly qualified teachers (NQTs). There were mixed impacts on professional well-being, increasing personal accomplishment and motivation but decreasing job satisfaction for NQTs. There were mixed impacts on teaching quality, with increases in child-led learning but decreases in some other aspects of quality. There were no impacts on NQTs’ student learning outcomes. The findings highlight system level challenges with both the posting of NQTs and the absence of support in their first teaching year. Implications for global early childhood education policy and teacher education are discussed.     

国外教师教学决策的比较研究及启示

合理的教学决策是有效教学的前提。不同专业发展阶段的教师在教学计划决策、互动性教学决策和反思性教学决策三方面存在着决策维度、决策焦点和决策模式的差异。现有研究表明,新手教师成长为卓越教师,除了教学经验的不断丰富之外,更重要的是要增强教师的课程意识和课程决策能力,提高教师对教学决策的反思批判水平。对这一问题的后续研究需要增加有经验教师和专家教师的教学决策比较,实现从认知理性到生态理性的研究转换,以更好地指导教师专业发展的实践。     

反思性讨论对英语教师专业发展的作用

本文以教育叙事的方式,从实证角度考察了某大学四位大学英语教师以团队合作形式进行的反思性写作教学,拟探索反思在教师专业化发展过程中的作用。研究表明,基于教师小组讨论的反思性教学,提升了教师教学技能,使大学英语写作教学更加专业化;同时也改进了写作教学效果,提高了学生的写作能力。本研究最后提出教学研究者如参与反思性讨论并对研究活动进行指导,可促进教师研究能力的发展,使其真正达到专业化的水平。     

影响体育教师参与体育教育改革三要素的分析研究

体育教育改革最终需依赖体育教师参与执行,体育教师作为体育教育改革的要素,势必成为体育教育改革的对象与主体,这需要掌握体育教师参与体育教育改革的内在要素,并建立起使体育教师主动参与体育教育改革的促进系统。本研究就体育教师自身的改革与完善,体育教师主动参与性,体育教师参与体育教育改革的内在选择系统,体育教师参与体育改革的促进系统等方面进行了论述,揭示了影响体育教师参与体育教育改革的某些问题。     

浅谈初中英语趣味教学

趣味教学的核心问题是:创造一个和谐融洽的师生关系;轻松、愉快的学习环境;采用灵活多变的教学方法,让学生做中学、学中用,从而激发兴趣,学得主动,提高学习效率。     

农村教师培训现状调查与策略研究

采用自编的农村教师培训现状调查问卷,对山西省忻州市13个乡37所农村中小学校的在职公办教师进行的调查表明,在农村教师培训中,培训目标、培训内容、培训组织实施、培训评价以及培训需求等方面均存在不同程度的问题,其主要原因在于缺乏正确理念、政策支持力度不大、培训资源匮乏、培训经费严重不足、培训管理不科学等。要保障农村教师培训有效开展,需要更新培训观念,加强培训基地建设,完善评价体系,健全农村教师培训的保障制度。
