Regression models often reveal a low statistical significance for the quality variables that are used to explain theatrical demand. I posit that opposing opinions on quality are the cause of this. A regression equation is constructed in order to explain demand, with continuous variables for price and volume, and with dummy variables for drama critics, directors-cum-managers, growth in funding by public authorities and repertoire classification. I use detailed data on demand for French theatrical institutions in 1995 and 1996 to test this model. To some extent, the results support the hypothesis that the media reputation of shows, as expressed in the form of drama reviews, and the artistic reputation of directors-cum-managers, which are listed on the programme, havean opposite effect on attendance. Nevertheless, the least squares coefficients show that the most reliable sign of quality remains the reputation of the theatrical institution. 相似文献

由于种种原因,国内对2005年诺贝尔文学奖得主哈罗德·品特的认识还有待深入.回顾品特戏剧在中国介绍、翻译、研究和演出的过程,可以看出中、英两种语境中的品特实际上是有差异的.这种差异在很大程度上源于中英两国历史条件、社会状况和文化氛围的不同.比较品特在中国以及在俄罗斯的接受情况,上述原因会更为明显.对此原因的理解有助于我们准确地认识和理解品特. 相似文献

ABSTRACTPlaylinks, the project documented in this paper, contributed a theatre-based artist-in-the-classroom study to the Community Arts Zone initiative. Playlinks involved 248 elementary school classrooms in pre- and post-production workshops connected to live theatre that visited their schools. Data sources included researcher field notes, teacher evaluation forms, and interviews with both teachers and theatre personnel. Findings focus on teacher perceptions of three topics: (a) student engagement, (b) learning across cognitive and affective domains, and (c) benefits for teachers. ABSTRACTHistorical pageants were important sites of popular engagement with the past in twentieth-century Britain. They took place in many places and sometimes on a large scale, in settings ranging from small villages to industrial cities. They were staged by schools, churches, professional organisations, women’s groups and political parties, among others. This article draws on contemporary studies of heritage and performance to explore the blend of history, myth and fiction that characterised pageants, and the ways in which they both shaped and reflected the self-image of local communities. Pageants were important channels of popular education as well as entertainment and, although they are sometimes seen as backward-looking and conservative spectacles, this article argues that pageants could be an effective means of enlisting the past in the service of the present and future. 相似文献

The family—via communication (or lack thereof)—is a primary avenue for sexuality education. While most research on family sexuality communication has examined the content of parent–child communication (e.g. topics discussed), relatively few studies have assessed the process, the way in which communication occurs. This paper presents an analysis of communication process based on data collected during a qualitative, observational study of family sexuality communication with thirty low‐ and middle‐income African American mothers and their adolescent daughters living in an urban area in the southeastern USA. Two dimensions of communication process emerged: affective and stylistic. Elements of the affective dimension included connection, empathy, comfort, anger, and silence. Elements of the stylistic dimension included interactive versus didactic communication styles, use of a variety of persuasive techniques, body language, and setting. Results suggest that the process of sexuality communication is as, if not more, important than content and that affectively open and stylistically interactive sexuality communication is related to the context of close and connected mother–daughter relationships. 相似文献
