The nurture teacher: characteristics,challenges and training

The nurture approach is a form of educational intervention for children with social, emotional and behavioural difficulties (SEBD). Utilising a unique example of a state‐run, special ‘nurturing’ primary school, Corinne Syrnyk, of St Mary's University College, Calgary, presents a case study of the experience of being a ‘nurture teacher’ in this distinctive environment. Findings suggest that nurture teachers value their role and are fulfilled by the challenge it presents. Nurture teachers tended to define their role according to personal qualities and described experiential learning as tantamount to the training process. This study illustrates the holistic approach adopted by nurture teachers and sheds light on the distinguishing features and experiences of nurture teachers. Implications for best practice concerning the support and training of existing and potential nurture teachers are discussed.     

Preferences of students with learning disabilities for alternative service delivery modes

ABSTRACT

This study investigates the preferences of students with learning disabilities regarding the location in which they receive help and the person from whom to get help. The attitudes of students with learning disabilities towards school as a function of the time they spend in the mainstream and their characteristics were also investigated. Results of the structured interviews and survey statements of 150 students indicated that they preferred receiving extra help in the special education class from the special education teacher. Students’ preferences for setting or teacher were not related to age, sex, IQ or academic achievement level, nor to the time students spent in the mainstream. The students expressed a positive attitude towards school in general, and towards their teachers, their classmates and the schoolwork in particular.

建立基于分馆的Information Commons(IC)读者服务模式研究

概述国外图书馆界的IC读者服务模式的先进经验，并设想我国图书馆在分馆基础上构建IC。通过阐述分析分馆IC的优势、分馆IC与馆的关系、构建条件、服务内容，充分整合分馆资源、环境、人力、技术与服务，发挥分馆的学科优势，创建一个为用户提供层次更深、功能更完善的一站式读者服务的新模式。     

Cultivation of taste and bounded rationality: Some computer simulations

One can approach the economics of the arts, as any field of applied economics, in either of two ways. First, one can treat economic theory and econometric technique as subjects settled by specialists in those fields, to be used in the ec onomics of the arts as they are given, very much as if one were studying the demand for maize. Alternatively, one can treat the economics of the arts as a field which may need and suggest its own developments in theory and technique, suitable to its spec ial problems and processes, from which general economic theory and econometric theory might in principle learn something. Perhaps this latter view is implausible, given the high state of development of economic theory and econometrics in the modern liter ature. 用户对数据库个性化服务功能利用研究——以《中文科技期刊数据库》为例

通过对《中文科技期刊数据库》华南师范大学镜像站个性化服务项目利用情况的分析，指出目前数据库个性化服务使用不普遍和不均衡的特点。提出以个性化服务需求为导向，增强个性化服务功能；加强宣传和推广的力度；注重用户隐私保护等建议来改进和深化数据库个性化服务。
