A pillar of the Youngstown community: The Public Library of Youngstown and Mahoning County engages in the Harwood practice

ABSTRACT

The Harwood Institute arrived in Youngstown, Ohio, in 1999; and today, over 18 years later, its teachings have made a profound effect upon the city. The Youngstown Public Library, through the leadership of Carlton Sears and Heidi Daniel, has wholeheartedly embraced the methods and ideology of the Harwood Institute, helping to reinvigorate and power a city working its way back to prosperity.

针对变分水平集在曲线演化目标跟踪方法中,直接计算得到的模值图较杂乱,利用Gaussian函数首先对图像进行平滑处理,然后利用中心差分计算梯度,并推导出二者的作用等价于Sobel算子与图像作运算.实例表明该算法使得曲线在演化过程中能够准定位,从而实现目标的正确跟踪.

研究了具有多变时滞的多智能体无向网络的平均一致性问题.在稳定性分析中,应用线性矩阵不等式（LMI）的方法,得到了多智能体无向多时滞网络的一致性收敛的充分条件.最后,仿真示例对理论结果进行了验证.

向量值奇异积分算子的核决定着算子的性质和加权不等式．标准核向量值奇异积分算子的研究内容已经日趋完善,弱Dini型核以及粗糙核向量值奇异积分算子也有所研究,但研究内容不够完善,现继续研究粗糙核向量值奇异积分算子,得到了这类算子的几个加权赋范不等式,丰富了向量值奇异积分算子的理论．     

From absent to active voices: securing disability equality within higher education

This article discusses the representation and participation of disabled students in the development of higher education policy and provision within the UK, at both a national and institutional level. Findings are drawn from a doctoral study, which identified the importance of student participation in securing equality and inclusion. Power relationships and established boundaries are explored to ascertain how vocal disabled students are in these processes. Questions are addressed in terms of the genuineness and effectiveness of participatory approaches, identifying those barriers that are likely to impede the process. These include the influence of dominant ideology, professional expertise and attitudes towards the capability of disabled students. All are important when considering the increased rights of disabled people.     

Metacognitive activities in text-studying and problem-solving: Development of a taxonomy

This article describes the construction of a hierarchical taxonomy of metacognitive activities for the interpretation of thinking-aloud protocols of students in secondary education, who studied texts on history and physics. After testing an initial elaborate taxonomy on a restricted number of protocols by multiple raters, it appeared that the interrater correspondence was well below par. The categories in the taxonomy were too highly specified. Categories were combined and tested on new protocols in a cyclic fashion. The revised taxonomy was then used for coding 16 history protocols and 16 physics protocols. Frequencies of occurrence of metacognitive activities were obtained, as well as judgements of the quality of the metacognitive activities of the participants. There is a reasonable correlation between the frequency method and the quality method for coding thinking-aloud protocols. Also, there is a substantial covariation of the number of metacognitive activities across both tasks.
