Finding and explaining differences: A reply to Gudykunst and Hammer

A rejoinder to Gudykunst and Hammer's critique of a recent paper is presented. We argue that their position is based on two mutually exclusive propositions and cannot therefore be credible. We continue to maintain that the evidence on intercultural effectiveness shows both culture-general and culture-specific components.     

论曹禺剧作中的懦弱男子形象

在曹禺的剧作中,有一个"懦弱型"男子的形象系列,包括周萍、焦大星、曾文清、高觉新等,这是曹禺作品中最成功的人物类型之一。剧作家对他们的描写有着潜在的一致性:他们都生长、生活在封建意识非常浓厚的家庭环境里,家长专制的气息异常浓烈;从接受的文化教育看,他们更多地受封建伦理道德及士大夫文化的影响;从感情生活看,常处在两个女人的情感夹缝中。通过对这些形象的塑造,一方面否定了养成这些"废物"的社会环境,另一方面也对人的生存困境进行了深入地探讨。

金庸是当代武侠小说的艺术大师。他的武侠小说背叛了传统武侠小说的“男女授亲不亲”,继承了“侠义”;以平常的笔触描写民族战争;以民为本;用“帮派”之争映照社会。具有古典浪漫主义的艺术特色。     

基于Library2.0的高校图书馆在线用户教育

在线用户教育是Library2．0核心思想在图书馆用户教育方面的实践。Library2．0工具在支持交互、共享、个性化服务方面极具优势，对完善在线用户教育的功能体系有极其重要的作用。笔者分别就BLOG、RSS、WIKI在高校图书馆在线教育中的应用提出了构想，以期对实践工作有所启示。     

Differential effects of norm-referenced and self-referenced feedback on performance expectancies,attributions, and motivation

When feedback is provided to students in a norm-referenced manner that compares the individual's performance to that of others, people who perform poorly tend to attribute their failures to lack of ability, expect to perform poorly in the future, and demonstrate decreased motivation on subsequent tasks. The present study examined the hypothesis that the deleterious effects of failure might be attenuated when failure is expressed in self-referenced terms—relative to the individual's known level of ability as assessed by other measures. In this study, subjects received feedback indicating that they did well or poorly on an anagram test, and this feedback was described as either norm-referenced (comparing the individual's performance to that of others) or as self-referenced (comparing performance to other measures of the individual's ability). As predicted, compared to norm-referenced failure, self referenced feedback resulted in higher expectancies regarding future performance and increased attributions to effort. Contrary to expectations, attributions to ability were not affected. The implications of the results for the structure of academic feedback are discussed.

弱正则性是用Gauss-Newton迭代算法求解广义互补问题超线性收敛的一个充分而必要的条件.本文把广义互补问题等价地转化为一个混合互补形式的广义互补问题,基于混合互补问题的相关性质,给出了广义互补问题弱正则性成立的一个新的充分条件.     

In search of the keyword method/vocabulary comprehension link

Previous research has indicated that the keyword method of vocabulary learning facilitates students' performance not just on simple tests of definition recall, but on comprehension-demanding tasks as well. The present study was conducted to determine whether the “comprehension” finding could be accounted for by keyword subjects' superior definition recall per se. The results generally supported that conclusion: When conditions and subjects within conditions were equated with respect to their initial levels of definition recall, the comprehension advantage of keyword subjects disappeared.
