The Effect of Web Search Result Display on Users’ Perceptual Experience and Information Seeking Performance

ABSTRACT

Adding multiple sources of information in the display of Web search results may negatively affect users’ perceptual experience and information-seeking behavior. This claim was established by investigating the impact of different Web search compositions on users’ ability to extract specific information. In this article, we assumed that the quantity and order of different compositions (areas) in the Web search results page may contribute to individual’s ability to find information relevant to their search queries. An eye-tracking device was used to observe and compare the perceptual behavior of 14 users in an information-seeking task. The results showed that the use of different compositions in the display of Web results page significantly influenced users’ perceptual experience by reducing their attention to the organic results area. The quantity of these compositions was found to greatly increase the cognitive load of users when attempting to retrieve information from the organic area, which negatively affects their information-seeking performance. Our finding provides a rationale for further studies to consider the impact of quantity and order of Web page compositions on individuals’ perceptual attention and cognitive load in information-seeking task settings.

基于模糊聚类的超链分析算法

基于关键字匹配的搜索引擎排序网页时仅仅考虑评价网页的重要性,而忽视分类;基于分类目录的搜索引擎很难动态分析Web信息。本文在分析它们不足的前提下,提出利用模糊聚类的方法对搜索引擎的检索结果进行动态分类,依据超链分析算法PageRank和Web文档隶属度相结合进行分类排序,并给出具有调节值的结合公式。实验证明,该算法能够更有效地满足用户的需要,提高检索效率。

Fuel Burning Rate Model for Stratified Charge Engine

A zero-dimensional single-zone double-curve model is presented to predict fuel burning rate in stratified charge engines, and it is integrated with GT-Power to predict the overall performance of the stratified charge engines. The model consists of two exponential functions for calculating the fuel burning rate in different charge zones. The model factors are determined by a non-linear curve fitting technique, based on the experimental data obtained from 30 cases in middle and low loads. The results show good agreement between the measured and calculated cylinder pressures, and the deviation between calculated and measured cylinder pressures is less than 5%. The zero-dimensional single-zone double-curve model is successful in the combustion modeling for stratified charge engines.
