Usefulness of Android Application in the Library: A Case Study on Assam Don Bosco University Library

AbstractLibrary automation provides a comprehensive way to lessen physical labor, reduce human error and grant access to information materials anywhere and anytime. A mobile computerized system for handling the activities and services of the library helps the library staffs to process the work more accurately, and it saves time as well. This research work aimed to design and implement an Android application for the library so that libraries can use to overcome the social and other challenges that prevent them from providing services on the go. The Android application was designed and implemented using the Android Studio which contains XML (extensible mark-up language) and Java. At the back-end HTML (Hypertext mark-up language), CSS (Cascading Style Sheet), PHP (PHP Hypertext pre-processor), and MySQL database were used. The system was tested after the development and found it suitable for meeting all the requirements specified. The system can add to the integrity of the library, ease the activities of the librarian and eliminate the stress related to the current process of searching for library books and other study materials. Before the introduction of the Android OS, access to the library documents was done only by the librarian. Android applications have become more popular and it holds a maximum number of users when compared to all other platforms. The Android application retrieves the information stored in the library database through the library server, for example, checking whether the books are available in the library or borrowed without intervening anyone. Users can suggest books for the library, and they are notified about their suggestion by the librarian. This article brings a new idea of the users to access the library. 相似文献

【目的】通过分析App医学期刊数字化出版形式的优势和不足,促进医学期刊的数字化出版。【方法】 以App“中华医学会系列期刊”和 App“医客”为例,深入分析App在医学期刊出版中的应用现状,提出目前存在的问题并探索未来的发展方向。【结果】App作为医学期刊数字化出版的应用形式之一,在价格、时效性、用户需求、阅读体验和功能完善等方面具有显著的优势,但同时在应用过程中也存在一些需要改进的地方。【结论】 App可以成为医学期刊数字化出版的实践形式。推进App的应用,对于医学期刊数字化出版具有较好的实践意义和指导意义。 相似文献

Open Government efforts are criticized for providing limited value. Instead of looking at a value, we investigate the usefulness of web-based open government portals and apps. Specifically, we investigated the relationship between digital transparency and usefulness. We analyzed perceived digital transparency and usefulness in a survey of 112 respondents using Partial Least Square (PLS) and Structural Equation Modelling (SEM). The results show that perceived functionality, transparency, and efficiency influence usefulness but that functionality of apps and efficiency are more important than transparency. Usefulness can be created without having high levels of transparency, as the public wants answers to their questions. Apps should be designed for efficient use, as users have limited time and resources. Apps having pre-defined functional views can be useful to provide quick insight but might limit transparency by not offering other views and insights. Opening raw data using portals can provide higher levels of transparency, although more time and effort are needed to analyze. Both portals providing access to raw data and apps having pre-defined views are needed for open government and transparency as they serve other stakeholder groups and purposes. 相似文献

Then collected the small data with strong correlation and high value with the user as the data support of the portrait, and clarified the acquisition and processing method. Finally, it put forward the research method to realize the dynamic portrait and form the overall frame model.[Result/conclusion] The construction of dynamic portrait of social academic App users based on small data can effectively refine the granularity of portrait, and improve the lag of previous portrait, which has important reference value for the promotion of accurate service level of social academic App platform under data-driven situation. 相似文献

Platform-centric ecosystems run by Apple, Google, Microsoft, etc. enable the companies to magnify the values of their products and services on an unprecedented scale, by harnessing third-party add-on software such as mobile apps. Despite the importance, however, there is a dearth of empirical research that investigates how third-party developers’ continued participation is actually determined. This paper examined two different mechanisms increasing dedication to a platform and constraining exit from the platform, respectively.
