Stronger Together: Embracing Google and Linked Data in Law Libraries

The MARC format ushered in the age of automation for libraries. However, the standard is dated. The Library of Congress began developing BIBFRAME, a linked data ontology, five years ago to supplant this aging standard. BIBFRAME isn't merely a replacement for MARC; it is the dawn of a new age of automation. Coupled with improved search engines and the open access movement, linked data can revolutionize the way all libraries do business. This article provides an overview of linked data technologies, surveys the early results of a linked data initiative, and argues for the adoption of this technology in law libraries.

作为研究《聊斋志异》的重要文献,“聊斋自志”引起了历代“聊斋”译家的注意。企鹅图书（Penguin Books）2006年推出的闵福德（John Minford）《聊斋志异》译本中包含了“自志”的翻译。闵福德独辟蹊径,以大量注释传达“自志”的典故意义、以自由诗体再现“自志”骈散结合的句式风格、以英语韵式补偿“自志”的声律特征,以灵活的手法再现“自志”的丰富意象。创造了如影随形、形神兼备的佳译。     

Headteacher visibility and teacher perceptions of headteacher trustworthiness: A comparison of the Ugandan context to existing theory

Students perform better academically in schools with high levels of trust. Yet school leaders primarily responsible for building cultures of trust may not know how to effectively build trust. This research examines how visibility of Ugandan headteachers is related to teachers’ perceptions of headteacher trustworthiness. Using grounded theory, we interviewed 28 Ugandan secondary school teachers in eight schools in Mukono District, Uganda. Findings indicate teachers’ perceptions of headteacher relational trustworthiness were related to headteacher visibility, with perceptions of both relational and competence trustworthiness being moderated by teacher and headteacher personal characteristics. Findings are comparable to U.S.-based research.

在日常的与理智主义的视觉中,事物的“可见性”总被蔽之以“真”的概念,使常人只寻求看得真而忘却真的看,从根本上阻隔或抑制着“看”作为一种直观体验的精神生活状态的触发。何以如此？试通过对“可见性”的内涵及其层次的分析论述找出其缘由,并从“看”的本真状态及其核心内容两个方面的探讨来阐发“可见性”既是艺术表现的原始动因和追逐的目标,又是其核心价值的体现的认识。也由此对当下艺术评价中文字操控形象的现象给予了抨击。     

Document retrieval using a serial bit string search

An experimental best match retrieval system is described based on the serial file organisation. Documents and queries are characterised by fixed length bit strings and the time-consuming character-by-character term match is preceeded by a bit string search to eliminate large numbers of documents which cannot possibly satisfy the query. Two methods, one fully automatic and one partially manual in character, are described for the generation of such bit string characterisations. Retrieval experiments with a large document test collection show that the two-level search can increase substantially the efficiency of serial searching while maintaining retrieval effectiveness, and that a single-level search based only upon the bit strings results in only a small decrease in effectiveness in some cases.

网络虚拟实验室构建方案

在介绍虚拟实验室的概念和功能的基础上,重点论述了虚拟实验室的构架、实现及其虚拟现实技术、虚拟仪器和多媒体技术的有机融合。设计的网络虚拟实验室实现了电路仿真、模拟真实实验过程与场景及实验结果可视化。     

专利活动和市场价值——基于信号理论的解释

专利是企业创新的重要产出形式,作为一种专有性资产会给企业带来竞争优势。围绕此议题,已有研究通过资源观视角提供了丰富的理论解释和实证检验。在企业实践中,专利的战略作用还体现在向利益相关者释放企业技术水平的信号,但在现有研究、特别是中国情境的研究中没有受到足够的关注。研究运用信号理论的相关观点探讨了企业专利活动在资本市场上的信号释放作用以及影响信号有效性的调节机制。基于中国2 250家上市公司2001—2011年14 817个观测值的面板数据分析可以得出的初步结论是:中国企业的专利数量对上市公司的市场价值有显著的正向影响,说明专利活动向投资者传递了积极的信号;同时,这种正向影响在企业可见性和行业竞争强度更高时更强。
