Travelling and sticky affects: Exploring teens and sexualized cyberbullying through a Butlerian-Deleuzian-Guattarian lens

In this paper we combine the thinking of Deleuze and Guattari (1984, 1987) with Judith Butler's (1990, 1993, 2004, 2009) work to follow the rhizomatic becomings of young people's affective relations in a range of on- and off-line school spaces. In particular we explore how events that may be designated as sexual cyberbullying are constituted and how they are mediated by technology (such as texting or in/through social networking sites). Drawing on findings from two different studies looking at teens’ uses of and experiences with social networking sites, Arto in Denmark, and Bebo in the UK, we use this approach to think about how affects flow, are distributed, and become fixed in assemblages. We map how affects are manoeuvred and potentially disrupted by young people, suggesting that in the incidences discussed affects travel as well as stick in points of fixation. We argue that we need to grasp both affective flow and fixity in order to gain knowledge of how subjectification of the gendered/classed/racialised/sexualised body emerges. A Butlerian-Deleuzian-Guattarian frame helps us to map some of these affective complexities that shape sexualized cyberbully events; and to recognize technologically mediated lines of flight when subjectifications are at least temporarily disrupted and new terms of recognition and intelligibility staked out.     

Use of Facebook: a case study of Singapore students' experience

Facebook has become one of the most popular social network sites among many students. However, current research on Facebook use has focused mainly on Anglo-American students. Relatively little is known about Facebook use in Singapore. Data were collected from 83 students (ages ranged from 15 to 23). This study uses a naturalistic case study wherein the students' decision to use Facebook is a personal decision and on a voluntarily basis; their participation is not a required or graded component. The specific objectives of the study are first, to examine Singapore students' motives for using Facebook; second, to investigate the types of friends they communicated with on Facebook; and third, to examine how students manage their privacy on the social networking site. Findings suggested that the current sample of Singapore students used Facebook primarily for non-educational purposes. Specifically, Facebook was used to maintain relationships with existing known friends such as former or current schoolmates. Respondents also reported using Facebook for entertainment purposes and to vent their emotions. No respondent reported using Facebook for educational purposes. The most common strategy for privacy protection utilized by the respondents was to decrease profile information visibility through restricting access to only known friends. Educational implications of the findings as well as suggestions for future research are provided.

甘罗是战国时著名的少年政治家,现今安徽、山东、河南、河北以及江苏、江西等地皆有甘氏遗迹和事状的流传。而以＂甘罗城＂名之者,全国有三处,一处属讹传。其中知名度最高、相传最早的就是江苏省淮安市运河边上的甘罗城。甘罗时为楚人,淮阴或为其封地,＂甘罗城＂的来历当与此相关联。与＂甘罗城＂相毗邻的＂韩信城＂,并非＂兴汉三杰＂韩信所筑,而源于其出生此地和其母冢之所在。     

论农村宅基地和房屋转让制度的完善

通过对我国农村宅基地与房屋转让的现状及允许农村宅基地与房屋转让的理论分析,提出应建立我国农村宅基地与房屋有条件的转让制度,以及规范该转让制度的若干具体建议。     

8周耐力训练对小鼠心肌SDH适宜刺激年龄的研究

目的：观察不同周龄组耐力训练对心肌代谢酶的影响,探讨耐力训练对心肌代谢酶产生最佳刺激的适宜年龄。方法：有氧训练以2％体重的负重负荷进行游泳60min／次,训练8周后,休息一天,用4％戊巴比妥那麻醉致死,取心肌分别用作冰冻切片和石蜡切片（横切面）。酶组织化学方法测定琥珀酸脱氢酶（SDH）。结果：经过8周耐力训练后各周龄训练组小鼠心肌的SDH的的活性明显增强,与对照组相比有显著性差异。结论：经过8周耐力训练后,心肌SDH均以3W组小鼠变化最为明显,提示如果要提高有氧代谢能力早期训练效果比较好。     

Critical literacy,self-protection and delinquency: the challenges of participatory media for youths at-risk

While pedagogy is predominantly viewed from the perspective of classroom instruction, educators worldwide invariably play a critical pastoral role of shaping the personal development of their students and nurturing in them life skills. With the avid use of participatory media by young people in peer interaction, educators need to be aware of the attendant risks and opportunities so that they may offer counsel and render appropriate advice. To this end, through interviews with 36 Singaporean male juvenile delinquents and youths-at-risk, this study explores how these youths utilise participatory media in their peer interaction. The findings indicate that for this vulnerable youth population, participatory media such as social networking sites can become a platform through which they are unwittingly drawn into criminal behaviour and post-rehabilitation, participatory media may offer an insidious route to recidivism. Participatory media complicates peer interaction by presenting risk factors such as network transparency, negative peer modelling, network seepage and network persistence, all of which have implications for these youths sliding further into delinquency and criminal activity. This article concludes with recommendations on the strategies which youths-at-risk can employ to avoid the risks of participatory media.     

A Virtual Reference Shelf for Nursing Students and Faculty

SUMMARY

A virtual shelf for nursing that closely mirrors what previously was found on a physical reference shelf is now a reasonable goal. Advantages of doing this for nursing students and faculty in an academic setting are enumerated. Overviews of relevant vendor and publisher interfaces and models are included. The authors present a selected list of appropriate electronic reference sources that demonstrate how e-books and Internet sites can be combined to build a virtual reference shelf in this subject area.
