Growing up in a tourist destination: developing an environmental sensitivity

Abstract

This paper explores how the socio-cultural milieu of a community may foster a sense of environmental stewardship among children and young people. Ethnographic fieldwork, carried out in a popular tourist destination in Australia, revealed that the overt impacts of tourism activity such as littering provoke negative feelings among children and young people; these perceptions can in turn translate into a sensitivity towards the environment. While debated in some circles, a Significant Life Experiences (SLE) lens is useful in understanding children and young people’s lived experiences of – and sensitivity to - environmental issues in the communities where they are raised. SLE is employed in this article to explore how a sense of stewardship towards the environment is developed among children and young people growing up in a tourist destination. Findings suggest they actively contribute to protecting the environment in a variety of ways from regular beach clean ups and educating visiting tourists to participating in rallies and anti-development protests.     

Orienting Schools Toward Equity: Subgroup Accountability Pressure and School-Level Responses

Abstract

This article examines school-level responses to subgroup accountability pressure through an ethnographic case study of a school cited for failing to make adequate yearly progress for student subgroups. Concerns about the calculations and measures used to derive the citation and reservations about acting on accountability data delegitimized the citation and rendered the identified subgroups irrelevant to daily practice. Under district guidance, compliance with subgroup accountability was independent of the school's internal efforts to promote equity.

高层建筑深基坑开挖过程中边坡稳定不容易保证,喷锚支护体系是将锚杆与滑裂面以外土体连成一个整体,再通过外拉系统与深基坑边坡组成一个整体受力体,承受主动土压力,利用土层的锚固力,维持被锚固体(边坡)的稳定,从而使得开挖的基坑获得广阔的空间。     

复杂铜精矿低温热压萃取工艺的研究

通过对铜精矿进行低温热压氧化提取铜、铁的萃取工艺研究,探讨了初始酸浓度、浸出温度、浸出时间等工艺参数对铜、铁浸出率的影响。结果表明:最佳浸出温度为110—130℃;随着初始酸度和氧分压提高、NaC1浓度增加、反应时间延长可以提高铜的浸出率。当氧气分压0.45MPa,浸出温度110℃,浸出时间4h,NaC1初始浓度为40g/L,H2SO4初始浓度为110g/L,液固比5:1,搅拌速度750r/min时,Cu的浸出率可达98%。     

生态安全的内涵及其研究意义

生态安全主要包括两个含义:一是生态系统自身是否安全;二是生态系统对于人类是否安全。生态安全的本质可以认为是围绕人类社会的可持续发展目的,促进经济、社会和生态三者之间和谐统一。影响安全的因素主要有生态环境问题、公共政策和公众素质。加强生态安全研究有诸多价值和意义:能够促进生态系统的可持续发展;对可持续发展概念起到补充和完善作用;有利于树立人们的生态安全意识;生态安全关系到国家安全及国民的生命与健康。     

中小学教师压力产生的原因探析

通过对新课程条件下中小学教师工作的现状分析和调查，提出了产生中小学教师工作压力的多方面原因，将有利于社会加大关注中小学教师问题的力度，提高中小学教师生活质量，为提高教育质量和民族素质服务。
