Binge-Watching and Psychological Well-Being: Media Use Between Lack of Control and Perceived Autonomy

Binge-watching—the intensive, consecutive viewing of televised series—has become a prevalent usage pattern of entertainment media, which may influence users’ psychological well-being both positively and negatively: On the one hand, binge-watching could increase viewers’ enjoyment, recovery experiences, and vitality through an increase in perceived autonomy. On the other hand, binge-watching can trigger goal conflicts and feelings of guilt, which may reduce well-being. Drawing on an online survey (N = 499), the present study examines the tension between these two mechanisms and their effects on users’ well-being. The data largely support the hypotheses: Binge-watching is perceived as recreational as long as goal conflicts and feelings of guilt can be avoided. Well-being, on the other hand, is positively affected by binge-watching-induced increases in perceived autonomy. These results corroborate the central role of self-determination as a link between media reception, media enjoyment, and psychological well-being.

目的论视角下《生活大爆炸》中幽默语的翻译

幽默是一种语言和文化内涵的载体,随着跨文化交流的日益频繁,越来越多的人对幽默有所探索。目前对幽默的研究大都是从文学、艺术、心理学等角度,但是从翻译的侧面对幽默的研究并不多,有些学者甚至认为幽默是不可翻译的。幽默语的翻译可以使来自不同文化背景人们相互之间更好地分享幽默。该文以功能翻译目的论为理论依据,选取时下流行的美国情景喜剧《生活大爆炸》中的幽默语言为案例,分析译者在翻译幽默语时所采取的具体策略及其得失。     

存在研发成果溢出时的企业战略联盟形式选择

在古诺竞争市场结构下,建立了具有R＆D工艺的双寡头博弈模型,从促进技术进步、产品的价格、企业的生产规模、企业的利润以及总福利的角度出发,研究了存在研发成果溢出时的企业战略联盟形式选择问题。研究表明,企业的战略联盟形式的选择不仅与研发成果溢出率以及产品的差异度的大小有关,而且与R＆D效率的高低有关。     

Reexamining Fear Appeal Models from Cognitive Appraisal Theory and Functional Emotion Theory Perspectives

Recognizing inconsistencies between the extant fear appeal theories and emotion literature, this research integrated cognitive appraisal theory and functional emotion theory into a fear appeal literature and proposed a model that describes a process through which both fear and anxiety can contribute to adaptive responses. Findings from an experiment (N = 927) supported the predictions. Fear and anxiety emerged as distinct constructs. Perceived susceptibility was a stronger predictor of anxiety than fear, while perceived severity was a stronger predictor of fear than anxiety. In addition, greater fear and anxiety led to greater response efficacy through increased motivation to obtain protection-related information and heightened attention to such information, thus mediating the threat and coping appraisal processes. The SEM model testing the predictions showed that perceived susceptibility had the strongest total effects on protection intention, followed by anxiety, perceived severity, and fear.     

当代社会需要的目录学

文章综述了新中国成立以来目录学研究领域的主要理论成果,分析探究了当代指引读书治学的目录学著作缺乏的原因。认为在文献与日俱增,计算机的运用已较为普遍的今天,我国古代目录学的精髓“辨章学术,考镜源流”的思想,用“叙录”的方法揭示图书文献的思想,不仅没有过时,更应该发扬光大。提出了改变目录学研究领域“只开花,不结果”状况的建议和措施。     

从顺应论视角解读中国第一次翻译高潮

本文尝试在一种全新的语用学理论——顺应论框架下解读中国第一次翻译高潮即佛经翻译。通过对佛经翻译过程中的语境关系顺应、语言结构顺应、顺应的动态性和顺应过程中意识程度的分析,揭示出中国第一次翻译高潮的发展规律。     

Using activity theory to understand prospective teachers' attitudes to and construction of special educational needs and/or disabilities

Appropriate professional development, including that initial teacher training, is regarded as a cornerstone of the development of inclusive education. This research is concerned with prospective teachers' conceptualisations of terms such as ‘disability’ and ‘special education’. Activity theory is proposed as a lens through which to consider the complexities involved. In the context of the English systems, this research, using data collected through word association and analysed using activity theory, explored the trainees' conceptualisations. The findings highlight both heterogeneity and homogeneity within a cohort of students, changes over time and implications for those involved in teacher education.     

Using Activity Theory to inform sessional teacher development: what lessons can be learned from tutor training models?

Abstract

Sessional teachers in universities are often marginalised by their part-time status, availability for training, and invisibility within the institution’s infrastructure. Nevertheless, tutors as a subset of this group, regularly have access to some training and development. This paper presents a methodological approach for implementing the BLASST framework for sessional staff at a New Zealand university, based on a project to benchmark support for tutors. Using Activity Theory, I discuss tensions associated with developing a training programme for tutors and how such an approach can aid the development of similar models for all sessional teachers.     

Shared Family Identity,Age Salience,and Intergroup Contact: Investigation of the Grandparent–Grandchild Relationship1 This study was part of the first author's doctoral dissertation and portions of the study were presented at the National Communication Association annual meeting,Chicago, 2004.

This study investigated communicative and relational aspects of the grandparent–grandchild relationship that lead to perceptions of age salience and shared family identity with the grandparent. The perceptions represent manifestations of inter- and intragroup levels of categorization in dealing with the other family member. The association between these group-oriented categorizations and perceptions of intergenerational contact outside of the family was examined. Participants (N?=?369) completed questionnaires assessing perceptions of experiences with multiple grandparents. Findings showed that general family identification of the grandchild, parental encouragement, and personal communication (social support and reciprocal self-disclosure) are positively associated with perceptions of shared family identity, whereas intergroup communication (under/overaccommodation) and perceptions of impaired health are associated with age salience. Results suggest that age salience may moderate the relationship between shared family identity and perceptions of older adults in some circumstances.
