农村劳动力歧视现象之省思

目前我国农村劳动力市场歧视现象严重,而其形成原因却复杂多样,主要涉及到历史传统、宏观经济形势、制度及观念因素等。本文分析得出:政府作为一个强大且有威信的行为主体,可以通过取消歧视制度、建立劳动力信息体系和促进经济良性增长等方式,有效减除农村劳动力歧视现象。     

公司董事勤勉义务的判断标准

在“董事会中心主义”的驱动下,董事职权也越来越大,现代公司面临股东与董事利益难以平衡的困境,基于此,强化董事的义务不失为一种解决办法。《公司法》虽已规定董事负有勤勉义务,但是并没有对勤勉义务的判断标准做出进一步规定,导致实践中对勤勉义务的判断过于散乱与模糊,很难落实董事违反此义务的责任。唯有在法律中以客观标准为基调,辅之以章程的细化与商业判断规则的补充,才能在激励与约束之间做到平衡,激发董事的热情与创造力,为公司利益最大化高效决策。     

斯宾诺莎早期哲学中的上帝和人

斯宾诺莎是西方近代哲学史中具有深远影响的代表人物之一,他的哲学源自犹太教的神秘主义思想和笛卡尔哲学的影响,但他在这二者的基础上开创了自己影响深远的实体一元论。斯宾诺莎在自己早期的哲学探索之中对神和人的关系进行了卓有成效的研究,虽然还有着浓厚的笛卡尔色彩,但却已经有了自己的个性。斯宾诺莎早期对于神和人的关系的探索集中在对于神的存在性的确认以及对于神的属性的讨论,在确定了神的至高无上性之后,他又把自然和神等同了起来,这样就把自然提高到了一个和神一样的地位,从而确定了其哲学的泛神论特点。而对于人的属性的讨论也是在这一个前提之下进行的,正由于人的一切属性在于被神的必然性所决定,因此人的真正的幸福就在于对于神的必然性的认识以及对于神的爱。     

Out of Place: Economic imperialisms in early childhood education

New Zealand has received world-wide accolades for its Early Childhood Education (ECE) curriculum, Te Whāriki. This paper explores the tension between economic imperialism, and a curriculum acknowledged as visionary. The foundational ideas of Te Whāriki emanate from sociocultural and anti-racist pedagogies. However, its implementation is hampered by the overarching policy discourse of Human Capital Theory (HCT), with its instrumental emphasis on economic outcomes. While Te Whāriki offers local cultural and educational possibilities, HCT is presented by those espousing economic disciplines, as having universal application. These tensions, largely unacknowledged and unexplored, place ECE teachers in positions of difficulty. While trying to meet aspirational curriculum goals in their daily practices, teachers’ attempts are constrained by supranational economic discourses. I ask how Edward Said’s (1999, Out of place: A memoir, New York, Knopf) concept of contrapuntal readings can offer spaces for resistance to the dominance of economics.     

Accuracy of teachers' judgments of students' cognitive abilities: A meta-analysis

This paper presents a meta-analysis of the accuracy of teachers' judgments of students' cognitive abilities. The array of cognitive abilities includes intelligence, giftedness, other cognitive abilities, and creativity. The integration of 106 effect sizes from 33 studies with a meta-analytical multilevel approach led to a mean judgment accuracy of cognitive abilities of r = 0.43. Moderation analyses revealed moderate to large effects for intelligence: r = 0.50, other cognitive abilities: r = 0.42, giftedness: r = 0.36, and creativity: r = 0.34. Lower judgment accuracy was shown for preselected student samples and for judgments without eligible frames of reference. We discuss an academic achievement bias as selected studies revealed higher correlations between judgments of intelligence and academic achievement measures (r = 0.61) than between judgments of intelligence and measures of intelligence.

Sex roles on television: A comparison of eastern and western media

Research on television sex roles is examined in terms of sex role portrayal, occupational endeavors, attitudes, and personalities. The studies reviewed for the U.S. verified the notion that men and women are still presented in their traditional roles. Women are not portrayed as autonomous, independent human beings, but were primarily sex typed. They were given responsibility for child care and routine home maintenance. On the other hand, men were shown in more serious roles assuming responsibility for family financial support, and thus were very likely to be employed in positions of high occupational status. The studies conducted in Japan and the Philippines likewise adhered faithfully to traditional roles and, in that sense, women were still not functioning to promote an egalitarian life for themselves.

Returning to humanity’s moral heritages

The main arguments of my lecture were how humans are failing themselves and devastating earth’s biosphere, at least in part, because they became uncooperative with two key ecological inheritances: raising the young within the human evolved developmental niche and, as part of this, facilitating the development of a deep attachment to, knowledge of and respect for their local landscape of other-than-human entities. Without humanity’s return to these cooperative evolutionary roots, the species will be doomed, along with many other-than-human beings. The now-widespread mental illness of ‘human supremacism’ that results from these missing pieces has spread around the planet and is destroying ecological integrity. The ‘Sacred Money and Markets’ story (SMM) that David Korten criticizes and I briefly discuss is a symptom of these missing pieces of human inheritance. We must return to a Sacred Life and Living Earth story with lifestyles to match.
