This study explores teachers’ observable value orientations in literature and history classrooms, wishing to investigate how teachers infuse their values into instructional settings through their conceptions of the taught subject, the process of making meaning, and their involvement in the process of value communication.Through consideration of observation, interview and additional data, the common features underlying teachers’ value orientations are identified. One may conclude that although participants avoid the clear involvement in value communication, they search for a balance in defending the humanistic tradition and enacting a more critical and multi-perspective development of students’ sense about values. The taught subject seems to affect the displayed value orientations.  相似文献

This study investigates two questions key to academic library resources and services: Which sources are students most likely to use to begin their academic work? Whom do students tend to consult for research assistance? In-depth interviews conducted with 15 undergraduate and graduate students were thematically analyzed through a three-step process. The findings indicate that students are most likely to consult faculty and peers for assistance and are largely unaware of librarians' roles, while they tend to begin research using library databases and do not necessarily start with Google. In addition, student use of small study groups as learning networks and reliance upon alternate sites to conduct research emerged as unanticipated themes.  相似文献

Rwanda offers one of the most unique and important cases for understanding the role of apologetic discourse in reconciling communities torn apart by violence and genocide. To help overcome the hatred that led to the 1994 Tutsi genocide, the Rwandan government instituted the gacaca court system, which calls for perpetrators to repent and apologize. This article provides a foundation for understanding apologetic exchanges in Rwanda's gacaca trials and broadens the current theories of apologetic rhetoric by describing the roles (and implications) of third-party participants in Rwandan apologies.  相似文献

Employing popular normative public relations paradigms, this study identified practices used by developers that improve long-range project outcomes, based on successful engagement in public meetings. Perceptions of public meeting processes, as well as mechanisms to improve outcomes and participant diversity, are discussed. Generally, findings indicate that larger developers were more likely to use public meetings successfully to identify, monitor, and resolve issues; and develop collaborative relationships. These developers were also likely to seek opportunities to increase public involvement by finding ways to lower constraints to participation. These strategies include varying meeting formats, sustained dialog throughout the project life span, employing consultants to aid in the development of public meeting plans, innovation in communication strategies, transparent exchange of ideas, and collaborative negotiations.  相似文献

Learner autonomy has been a buzzword in foreign Language teaching in recent years. The concern with teaching and learning has shifted from the teachers‘teaching to the students' learning. This paper reports an experiment conducted by the author using tests, questionnaires and interviews in a senior middle school located in Hubei Province. The complex and uncertain environment of the humanitarian response to crises can lead to data bias, which can affect decision-making. Evidence of data bias in crisis information management (CIM) remains scattered despite its potentially significant impact on crisis response. To understand what biases emerge in complex crises and how they affect CIM, we conducted a combined interview and document analysis study. Focusing on the largest humanitarian crisis in the world, i.e., the conflict in Yemen, we conducted 25 interviews with managers and analysts of response organizations, and assessed 47 reports and datasets created by response organizations in Yemen. We find evidence of a cycle of bias reinforcement through which bias cascades between field, headquarters and donor levels of crisis response. Researchers, as well as practitioners, need to consider these underlying biases and reinforcement loops because they influence what data can be collected when, by whom, from whom, and how the data is shared and used. To the CIM literature, we contribute an in-depth understanding of how four types of data bias emerge in crises: political, accessibility, topical, and sampling bias.  相似文献

明末清初社会思潮以"经世致用"为价值核心,大力提倡经世致用、实事求是之学,把学术研究的范围从儒家经典扩大到自然、社会和思想文化等各个领域。黄宗羲作为明末清初特殊历史时期著名思想家留下了《明夷待访录》这样的经世著作,这不仅是对明王朝亡国之痛的深刻反思,更是以国家兴亡为己任的谏言。研究认为,《明夷待访录·兵制》篇是着重针对国家谈武论兵方面的建议谏言,其中"重武以兴国"、"壮健轻死善击刺"、"文武合为一途"、"亲上爱民"等武学思想,不仅是深刻总结故国覆亡惨痛教训的赤诚谏言,更是经世致用实学思想影响下黄宗羲武学思想的时代抉择。对黄宗羲武学思想的挖掘不仅是对黄宗羲思想的进一步丰富,更重要的是使先贤之"经世之学""致用"于现世武学,乃至社会发展。  相似文献

This qualitative study employs the uses and gratifications framework to explore the perspective of African American women in Kentucky, specifically urban Louisville and rural Hopkinsville, to understand their use of media as potential sources for gathering information about healthy food habits. Key findings include how the participants used media for instrumental purposes to educate themselves about healthy food habits, and that the specific media personalities were very important to the participants as they decided to make healthier food selections.  相似文献

ABSTRACT

This article is an interview with three librarians with extensive experience in private equity (PE) and venture capital (VC) research. Two of the participants work in a business research consultancy and one works in an academic library within a graduate business school. They shared their thoughts on what is unique or noteworthy about conducting research in these areas. Topics covered include: a typical workday; common research requests; information resources used; differences in research in private equity and venture capital; the information needs of entrepreneurs, students and professors; and challenges that arise in conducting PE and VC research.  相似文献
