关于我国助学贷款现状的调查报告

国家助学贷款是国家为资助家庭经济困难高校学生而推出的重要政策,目前已初见成效,但在具体实施过程中也出现了学生“骗贷”和违约不还款、银行限制借款等种种问题,究其原因是多方面的。为此,我们专门成立了课题小组,旨在通过调查研究发现目前助学贷款存在的问题及深层原因,为进一步发展助学贷款,帮助贫困大学生提供思路。     

谈政论文的英译——以2008年《政府工作报告》为例

长期以来,由于政治特有的严肃性和敏感性,对于政论文翻译的介绍在非文学翻译中相对较少。然而,随着我国外宣工作的不断发展,对政论文的翻译应有更深的认识。本文以2008年《政府工作报告》为例,从政论文的特点、翻译原则及其翻译策略入手,展开详细的分析和论述。     

Disseminating the right information to the right audience: cultural determinants in the use (and misuse) of rankings

Rankings and league tables, or Report Cards (RCs), of Higher Education Institutions have become a global phenomenon. Their purpose, it is claimed, is to help “student-consumers” make informed decisions. Yet the degree to which RCs succeed in helping students in their college choice is disputed. Even though RCs are intended for all, which information is sought and how it is used may differ between potential students hailing from different social, economic and cultural backgrounds. In particular, RCs may neglect certain cultural determinants that influence students’ college choice behaviour. The article reviews the literature on the cultural determinants of college choice and especially the use of RCs in the ambit of cultural determinants. In the United States, possibly because of evident educational gaps between ethnic groups in society, the issue of cultural perceptions in college choice has been addressed, albeit scantly. In Europe, this field of study is virtually non-existent, despite increasing indications that second and third generation immigrants still lag behind in terms of higher education participation and graduation rates.

Primary humanities: a perspective from Wales

ABSTRACT

How the humanities subjects are represented in primary schools in Wales has been influenced by curriculum developments including Curriculum Cymraeg, the Skills Framework and the Foundation Phase. A central tenet of Welsh Government policy has been to actively encourage schools to promote a sense of ‘Welshness’ through curriculum content, pedagogies and school policies. In addition, early years’ education has been extended to 5–7-year olds and at Key Stage 2 skills and competencies are priorities, with subject content providing the context for learning. In 2015, the Donaldson Review’s recommendations were fully implemented in the Government’s plans for a new 3–16 Curriculum for Wales to be fully implemented by 2021. Humanities became one of six Areas of Learning and Experience (AoLE) with the curriculum content to be developed by an all-Wales partnership team which includes the Pioneer Schools’ network. This article traces the post devolution build-up to this latest ‘radical change’. It suggests that for stakeholders developing the humanities curriculum the challenge will be considering how the key concepts of different ‘subject pedagogies’ are represented, while fulfilling the Government’s emphasis on early years’ pedagogy and its focus on a competency-led curriculum.     

Managing collaboration across further and higher education: a case in practice

The Dearing Report highlighted the need for HE programmes to enhance students' basic skills, and one of these is numeracy skill. There is a history of low confidence and negative attitudes to learning about numbers and 'maths anxiety' in undergraduates which means that delivering 'numerate graduates' may be something of a challenge to HE institutions. This college surveyed attitudes to numeracy and learning about numbers in all first-year students (over 1000 students). Over 40% of students returned their questionnaires. This survey found considerable negative attitudes and low confidence among respondents as a whole (25% of those who returned the questionnaire), and anxiety was highest (over 40%) in students taking a Humanities programme. This raises considerable concern about how we can deliver numeracy to students in HE. The findings of the survey, gender issues and the individualised concept of 'maths anxiety' are discussed in relation to the social and cultural construction of attitudes to maths and maths confidence as empowerment (Benn, 1997). The main conclusion is that HE institutions need to consider carefully how to provide good educational opportunities for individuals with low motivation to engage in maths-related activity. There is also an urgent need to challenge cultural myths and stereotyping relating to maths learning if we want the next generation of graduates to have more confidence in their maths skills.     

21世纪美国高等教育政策改革述评——基于Spellings委员会报告的分析

美国Spellings委员会报告是21世纪美国高等教育改革的重要议案,既为高等教育法案的修订提供了立法基础,也为今后联邦政府高等教育政策改革提供了蓝图。该报告确定了"高等教育机会、可支付性、质量与创新、问责"是高等教育政策改革的四个主题。美国21世纪高等教育政策改革是由联邦政府发挥主导作用,由社会多方代表进行民主商议,然后由政府主要采取立法与拨款形式进行的。它充分尊重各州和高等院校的自主权,对我国高等教育政策改革可以提供有意义的经验借鉴。     

2005年《政府工作报告》部分译例再商榷

本文对吴文子先生就2005年《政府工作报告》节选(第五部分)所提出的部分英文译文问题再商榷,通过译例分析试指出对外宣传翻译,尤其政府公文的翻译,首要原则便是语义准确无歧义,不累赘,符合西方受众心理和语言习惯。
