Communicating the Value of an Institutional Repository: Experiences at Ghana's University for Development Studies

ABSTRACT

The quality of research depends greatly on access to existing information. Institutional repositories (IRs) have the potential to enhance and promote the dissemination of knowledge and research. This may lead to discoveries and innovation alongside maximizing return on investment in research and development. Following some background information, this article briefly discusses the processes involved in the establishment of Ghana's University for Development Studies (UDS) IR (UDSspace). Marketing and advocacy strategies employed to engage Faculty to enable them to contribute meaningfully and effectively in the populating of the IR are outlined and benefits described. The study uses a quantitative method. A questionnaire was used to elicit data from faculty. This article describes the various communication methods used to promote the IR and evaluates their effectiveness in getting users to participate in populating the IR. The survey found that although as high as 80.3% of respondents were aware of the benefits of an IR and 66.2% were aware of the existence of the UDS IR, 86.8% of respondents had not submitted to the IR.     

Librarians as Advocates of Social Media for Researchers: A Social Media Project Initiated by Linköping University Library,Sweden

ABSTRACT

Librarians at Linköping University help researchers keep abreast of developments in their fields and to increase the visibility of their work. Strategic, professional use of social media ought to be an essential part of a researcher's communication strategy. This article investigates the level of awareness of the professional use of social media among LiU researchers. The investigation showed that use of social media was not significant; however, a small number saw potential. The purpose of this article is threefold. The first purpose was to evaluate the potential of using social media as a tool for communicating research outside LiU. Second, the article presents a study in which views of LiU researchers on social media were ascertained via seminar discussions, informal feedback, and interviews. The study has a case study approach involving eight researchers. Third, the article covers how LiU Library created a web-based information package to support researchers in social media use.

特里·安德森(Terry Anderson)博士是位国际知名远程教育专家。目前任职加拿大阿萨巴斯卡大学教授,同时任职设在该校的加拿大全国远程教育研究会的主席。安德森教授在远程教育和教育技术领域涉猎广泛,发表了大量的研究论文,并于近期与他人合著出版了两本新书:《电子研究:方法、问题和战略》(E-Research:Methods,Issues and Strategies),《21世纪的电子学习:研究与实践的框架》(E-Learning in the 21stCentury:A framework for research and practice)。 安德森博士是当地阿尔伯特省、加拿大乃至国际远程教育组织的积极参与者。他主要承担着远程教育硕士教学计划的教育技术课程,并具体负责主持着若干教育技术应用方面的研究课题。 安德森博士同时兼任《加拿大远程教育杂志》(Canadian Journal of Distance Education)、《教育中的互动媒介杂志》(Journal of Interactive Media in Education)、《国际远程教育研究评论》(International Review of Research in DistanceEducation)、《高等教育中的国际互联网》(Internet in Higher Education)、《加拿大学习与技术杂志》(The Canadian Jour-nal of Learning and Technology)等采用同行评审制度的多种学术杂志的编辑评审委员会成员。

Addressing plagiarism in online programmes at a health sciences university: a case study

Plagiarism continues to be a concern for all educational institutions. To build a solid foundation for high academic standards and best practices at a graduate university, aspects of plagiarism were reviewed to develop better management processes for reducing plagiarism. Specifically, the prevalence of plagiarism and software programmes for detecting plagiarism was investigated. From that information, best practices for responding to plagiarism were developed and a process to enhance academic integrity was instituted. The results were impressive, the incidence of plagiarism offences reduced by half in three years, and by 75% among the English as a second-language student population.

当前,文科高校学报质量低的突出表现是栏目雷同化和大杂烩化,没有能够体现本校学科优势和地域特色的个性化栏目,解决存在问题的途径有两条:一是实施专题化和特色化;二是建立高质量的稿源。     

论园长课程领导的困境与对策

园本课程开发要求园长具备一定的课程领导能力,能基于一定的专业知识,运用各种领导策略,与相关人员一起开发并实施园本课程,提升教师的教育效能及园本课程的品质.在实践层面,园长课程领导能力的发展面临课程开发和课程领导专业知能不足、疏离课程开发和教学工作、其他人员参与园本课程开发的意愿不强等困境,急需获得相应的支持性环境、合作性文化和专业性培训.     

初中农村留守儿童学业求助的特点研究

采用学业求助问卷对188名留守儿童与209名非留守儿童进行测试,结果表明:农村留守儿童与非留守儿童在学业求助行为与求助对象上差异显著;农村留守儿童在执行性求助行为方面性别主效应显著,在回避性求助行为方面性别与年级交互效应显著。寄养儿童回避性求助行为得分显著高于非寄养儿童。
