This study focuses on how students, who for a variety of reasons struggle in mainstream secondary schools, can be supported and engaged by alternative forms of education and training to attain a (formal) qualification. Interviews and focus groups are carried out with school staff members of distinct types of alternative learning arenas in Flanders (northern part of Belgium): second chance secondary education, part-time apprenticeship track and part-time work-based vocational education. Our analyses reveal that, due to the selectiveness of mainstream secondary education, staff members in alternative learning arenas mainly struggle with the ways to develop inclusive curricula/practices and with the actual content of the curricula of their educational training or programme they are supposed to teach. Staff members struggle with putting into practice the fundamental aim to prepare socially vulnerable students for their future lives. Debates within the school team focus upon the relative importance of transferrable, specialist and social skills and competences. Results of this study are discussed to further enhance the professionalisation of school teams, and can be seen as the starting point to specify and develop the curriculum taught in both alternative learning arenas and mainstream secondary education.  相似文献

Contemporary globalization is marked by rapidly and dramatically increasing interdependence, which operates both within and among countries. Increasing global interdependence has profound influence on education at all levels, such as how to deal with a world with more permeable boundaries in which people are on the move more frequently (migration) than ever before in human history, and in which urbanization is increasing at an unprecedented rate. This paper proposes a transformational analysis of contemporary globalization and identifies the increasing challenge for education due to the globalization, including the struggle to match the pace of technology change in society, to provide graduates with skills relevant to contemporary society, and to lead education students to an accommodation with persistent and rapid social change. 从创新活动中偶然性的重要作用出发,结合现实背景和相关理论,提出一种区别于传统创新的过程模式——偶发性创新,即由偶然因素引发的创新。归纳出偶发性创新的基本特征和构成要素,并指出其与一般创造过程的区别。进而在前人实证研究的基础上,提出偶发性创新较一般创新模式而言通常蕴含更高技术价值的观点,指出该创新模式可能成为突破性创新的替代方案,成为跨越型技术产生的源泉之一。  相似文献

Second Chance Schools (SCS) aim to provide excluded young people with new opportunities for educational success. However, there is scarce research on teachers’ identities as a crucial factor in understanding how these schools operate as sites of educational inclusion. Based on a comparison between SCS in Buenos Aires and Barcelona, this article argues that this modality of schooling contributes to the configuration of a dominant teacher identity, distant from that forged during the emergence of modern secondary schooling. Three elements feature this identity: the ethics of care, the personalization of teaching and the conception of teaching as a collective endeavour.  相似文献
