Improving the reading skills of young people with Duchenne muscular dystrophy in preparation for adulthood

Duchenne muscular dystrophy (DMD) is a progressive genetic condition that affects both muscle and brain. Children with DMD are at risk of psycho‐social difficulties such as poor academic achievement and behavioural and socio‐emotional problems. This article by Janet Hoskin and Angela Fawcett, both from the University of Swansea, describes how 34 participants with DMD took part in a 36‐week online literacy intervention which was delivered in partnership between home and school. The key objective was to improve reading skill. Participants were re‐tested at 36 weeks for single word and text level reading, comprehension, fluency, processing and timed single word reading. Pre and post results indicated that children who followed the intervention for 36 weeks made significant improvement in their single word reading (p = <0.0001), timed single word reading (p = <0.0001) and text level reading (p = <0.004). They also made significant improvement in their fluency and comprehension scores. The results showed that children with DMD and related literacy difficulties benefit from a regular, structured and systematic synthetic phonics programme. With young people with DMD increasingly living into adulthood, early literacy intervention is particularly important to ensure optimum career and training opportunities.     

Instructional design for single information literacy sessions

Abstract

The purpose of this paper is to describe how the Understanding by Design instructional design framework can be applied to design high-quality single-session information literacy instruction. The author describes the Understanding by Design process in detail, noting modifications for single instructional session design with examples from the application of this instructional design process to design co-curricular instruction sessions for undergraduates.

国外高校图书馆学术出版素养教育课程进展研究

[目的/意义] 伴随着出版环境日趋复杂，学术出版素养教育已逐渐成为高校图书馆信息素养教育新的生长点。本文深入调研分析国外高校图书馆学术出版素养课程的现状及特点，旨在为我国图书馆学术出版素养课程建设提供参考。[方法/过程] 利用网络和文献调研方法，选取了国外16所已经开设学术出版素养课程且具有代表性的高校图书馆，从教学内容、教学形式、教学方法、教学团队和教学评估五个角度进行调研，分析其实践进展与特点。[结果/结论] 国外高校图书馆已经积极参与到学术出版素养课程教学，调研案例中呈现教学内容丰富，教学形式多样，教学氛围活跃，教学团队开放合作，教学评估可持续发展的特点。我国图书馆应充分借鉴国外学术出版素养课程实践经验，适时开展学术出版素养教育。

Guide on the Side and LibWizard Tutorials Side-By-Side: How Do the Two Platforms for Split-Screen Online Tutorials Compare?

Split-screen tutorials are an appealing and effective way for libraries to create online learning objects where learners interact with real-time Web content. Many libraries are using the University of Arizona's award-winning, open source platform, Guide on the Side. In 2016, Springshare released a proprietary alternative, LibWizard Tutorials. This article reviews the advantages and limitations of this kind of tutorial. It also examines the differences between each platform's distinctive characteristics. These platforms create similar split-screen tutorials, but have differences that affect diverse aspects of installation, administration, authoring and editing, student learning, data management, and accessibility. Libraries now have the opportunity to consider and compare alternative platforms, and decide which one is best suited to their needs, priorities, and resources.     

基于模糊综合评价方法的物流企业核心竞争力研究

随着物流企业之间的竞争日趋激烈,为提高物流企业在全球市场中的竞争力,认清本企业的优势和不足并确定发展目标,必须对物流企业核心竞争力做评价研究。本文结合电子商务快速发展的时代特征,分析了影响物流企业核心竞争力的指标体系,并基于层次分析法（AHP）确定了各项指标的权重,然后用模糊综合评价方法对企业核心竞争力作出评价。最后本文以河南省某物流企业为例做评价研究,并对其今后的发展作出战略性指导。     

对数学概念二重性的认识

数学概念具有二重性——过程与对象，两者同属概念的两个侧面。在概念的学习中，应辩证地认识两者关系：概念的获得有先后次序；对象的形成经过内化、压缩和实体化三个关键环节；过程与对象的作用同等重要，二者不可偏废；概念具有层次性，但学生往往只能掌握概念某个层次的意义而非全部意义；概念学习由过程向对象转化时，学生的认知并非与之同步变化；概念学习由过程向对象转换需要较长时间。     

The Digital Humanities Summer Scholarship: A model for library-led undergraduate digital scholarship

ABSTRACT

The article offers a model for library-centered undergraduate engagement with digital scholarship based on two years of successful implementation at Lafayette College. Librarians designed a competitive six-week summer internship where undergraduate students built their own digital research projects. Through their original projects, students practiced traditional research methods and simultaneously explored subfields of digital scholarship. The article's topics include the relationship between digital scholarship and information literacy, the library's role in facilitating digital scholarship, and the internship's design and execution. The article also includes reflections and recommendations for sustainable implementation.
