NEWSROOM PRACTICES AND LETTERS-TO-THE-EDITOR

Letters-to-the-editor provide a significant forum for public debate, enabling the exchange of information, ideas and opinions between different groups of people. Since journalistic work is central to the processes of citizenship, this article observes the social context surrounding letters-to-the-editor in four Portuguese press publications. Keeping in mind the existence of a set of selection criteria, based on newsroom practices, it is possible to characterize the debate that takes place in the letters’ section as a construction. As with any other editorial content, the published letters are also a result of a selection, editing and framing process, shaped by journalistic routines and subject to limitations such as space and time.     

Grasping scientific news

By developing model-based news articles and presenting them to audience focus groups, this research gauges reader response to “test stories” based on four models of science journalism: science literacy, contextual, lay-expertise, and public participation. This approach allows investigation of how to tie journalism theory to practice to audience reception, and back again. The results show how journalists and readers differently engage with various models of science journalism and used them to gain different knowledge and understanding. These differences show the need to articulate more clearly hybrid models of science journalism that make use of the overlapping positive features of the models investigated. Such hybrid science journalism models could provide new educational tools aimed at showing how to better understand who “the audience” is and exemplifying how to position audiences as active members in stories and as stakeholders in the scientific process.     

The Invisible Woman?

While the coverage of women's sport in UK media rises to comparable levels to men's sports during large sporting events like the Olympics, academics agree that “routine” women's sports coverage is under-represented. According to the Women's Sport and Fitness Foundation, “81% of people think that the female athletes at London 2012 make better role models for young girls than other celebrities.” This article examines the representation of women in sport and compares routine coverage of women's sports in the UK national press across a week in February 2012, six months before the London Olympics, with coverage in a week in February 2013, six months after the Olympics, to see if there has been an Olympic “legacy” that increased coverage. It also examines coverage at the same time of year a decade earlier, to see how far, if at all, women's sports coverage in newspapers has progressed. The results suggest that there has been minimal change in everyday coverage of women's sports after the Olympics, and that female athletes continue to be hugely under-represented in the UK press.     

浅析新闻工作中需要处理好的几个关系

“把好关,把好度”,是新闻工作的一项基本原则.要做到这一点,新闻工作者必须要处理好大众化与媚俗化、时效性与严谨性、客观性与倾向性等三个方面的关系,使新闻更多地展现社会风貌,贴近社会生活.同时做到,在快速传达新闻信息的同时,牢牢把握对所获得信息的考证过程,在追求时效性的同时,追求严谨性.并且,最大限度减少新闻传播中的偏差,保证新闻的客观真实性,进而将新闻工作提高到一个新台阶.     

双语教学与专业英语教学的衔接研究——以新闻学为例

新闻专业英语和新闻传播学课程的双语教学,二者都是我国高校新闻院(系)积极应对改革开放、经济全球化、传播全球化而进行的教学创新实践。新闻传播视域和英语语境的结合是两类课程的共有特质,这也使得二者容易被混淆和误解。结合对两类课程的教学实践,通过对其内容和特点进行比较,从而探讨如何才能发挥其课程特性,并对新闻传播教学培养起到应有作用。     

论现代高等新闻传播教育的理念建构

理念指导方向,引领行动。教育理念的建构和推广应在教育改革中处于优先地位,但当前大学新闻传播教育改革的探讨却大多聚集于现实问题的当下解决,对教育理念建构的意义与价值关注不足。面对媒介技术快速发展,以及诸多倡导强化技术教育的探讨,本文另拓新思,探讨现代高等新闻传播教育理念建构的价值和意义。     

新闻教育“四纵三横”实践教学模式探究——以湖北第二师范学院为例

新闻专业技能训练不足已成为我国新闻教育中一个十分突出问题;“来了就能用”,是当下新闻人才招聘的共同需求。注重多维度实践教学,让学生在专业学习过程中提高业务技能,既是新闻教育义不容辞的责任,也是其“对症”的良方。湖北第二师范学院实施的“四纵三横”实践教学模式,算是其中的一个尝试。     

我国网络体育新闻传播的现状及对策

采用问卷调查、专家访谈等方法对我国网络体育新闻传播的现状进行了分析,结合网络媒体传播体育新闻中的诸多问题,提出了相应的对策:提高网络直播的速度,丰富网络直播的内容;加大网络体育新闻报道的深度;网络媒体应努力打造精品体育栏目;综合性网站要注意处理好商业化和导向性的关系;规范网络传播,做好舆论监督工作;传统媒体与网络媒体应“竞合”发展。     

重视新闻职业道德体系的建构——从山西繁峙大矿难记者受贿说开去

山西繁峙金矿主向有关新闻记者送现金和金元宝作为“封口费”事件的发生 ,再一次向我们敲响了警钟。如果仅将记者这个职业视为养家糊口、安身立命的饭碗 ,把这个职业所特有的神圣感、社会责任感、历史使命感完全抛诸脑后 ,对一个记者的成长乃至媒介的发展 ,甚至对整个社会都将产生不可估量的负面影响。新闻职业道德准则需要从业者身体力行地遵守维护。建构新闻职业道德体系的已迫在眉睫     

早期的“时评”——论我国近代新闻评论发生发展的形式规律

本文以“时评”栏目的确立作为一个线索 ,考察了我们早期新闻评论的存在形态及其发展规律 ;辨析了这种随着大众传播媒介到来的职业化写作 ,是如何逐渐脱离传统的言论形式 ,形成自己的形式特征的。
