从传统节日、宗教文化及饮食看中西方文化差异——语言学习有效途径的文化分析

学习语言与了解语言背后的文化是分不开的。中西方文化存在一定差异,因而语言学习以及教学必须注重对中西文化的学习与掌握。从传统节日入手,了解文化特色与民族特点,通过对具有代表性的节日、饮食,以及所体现文化的了解,认识语言学习深层次的文化因素,发现语言学习的乐趣,从而加深对语言的理解,提高语言学习的能力和效果。     

整体语言视角下的英语语法教学实践研究

分析了英语语法教学存在的问题,提出了教学改革的必要性。通过对整体语言教学理论的阐述,运用此教学理念于语法教学实践,提出了“语篇导入、任务贯穿、技能融合”的语法教学新模式。     

Supporting English second-language learners in disadvantaged contexts: learning approaches that promote success in mathematics

In the Australian context, children living in disadvantaged circumstances, whose second language is English, are one of the groups at risk of failing in mathematics. This paper explores the impact purposely developed learning activities (Representations, Oral Language and Engagement in Mathematics Learning activities) have on pupils' mathematics outcomes in the first three years of formal schooling (Foundation, Year 1 and Year 2). The participating group (n = 461) comprised 328 English language learners and 133 mainstream pupils. To ascertain the impact of the learning experience, pre- and post-tests were conducted at the commencement and completion of each school year. The results indicate that all of the children significantly improved, with English as a second language pupils showing the greatest gains, and achieving norm-referenced expectations for their age.     

The impact of a natural disaster: under- and postgraduate nursing education following the Canterbury,New Zealand,earthquake experiences

While natural disasters have been reported internationally in relation to the injury burden, role of rescuers and responders, there is little known about the impact on education in adult professional populations. A 7.1 magnitude earthquake affected the Canterbury region of New Zealand on 4 September 2010 followed by more than 13,000 aftershocks in the three years to September 2013. As part of a larger study, a mixed method survey was used to explore factors impacting nurses engaged in education through polytechnic and university courses. This paper presents factors that were self-identified by students as supporting their ability to continue with education. Participants were recruited from three nursing settings: undergraduate nursing students, Registered Nurses (RNs) engaged in post-registration education and RNs engaged in postgraduate courses. A total of 290 participants took part in the study. A number of factors identified by participants could be addressed in pre-disaster course planning and curriculum design; through education and support of both students and staff; and the active promotion of personal, professional and institutional resilience.

新媒体的迅猛发展为马克思主义大众化传播带来了新的机遇和挑战。新媒体语境下推进当代中国马克思主义大众化,需要树立平等对话、隐性教育、生活教育的全新传播理念;优化马克思主义理论传播语言,注重科学性,力求通俗性,具有针对性,彰显生动性;优化新媒体传播过程,利用新媒体传播的大众性,挖掘民族精神的契合点,利用新媒体传播的交互性,扩散马克思主义理论,通过潜移默化的熏陶,使人民群众坚守马克思主义理想信念;创新传播方法,坚持上下联动、情理并举、舆论引导的传播方法。     

The risks of ‘university speak’: relationship management and identity negotiation by mature students off campus

Research finds that participation in higher education is generally empowering for mature students but that it can also create tensions in their off-campus relationships. This article reports on findings from an ongoing study of the experiences of mature students at university in Ireland and draws from interviews with 15 such students in the final year of their studies. Following similar research by Baxter and Britton in the UK, the article considers how mature students experience and represent changes in identities and social relationships brought about by entry to higher education. Specifically, the article focuses on the risks associated with using newly acquired academic language (or ‘university speak’) off campus. The findings reported here complement existing research and offer support for Baxter and Britton’s suggestion that mature students often experience compartmentalisation and fragmentation in their self-identities.

“培根问题”是波普尔在批判培根经验论及其“偏见”观的基础上首次提出的。波普尔不仅将内涵于培根哲学中“偏见”与“观察证实理论”的矛盾、冲突称为“培根问题”,而且经由对传统“观察证实理论”的颠覆性分析,提出并系统论证了与培根不同的、旨在通过正面肯定理论或“偏见”对“观察证实理论”的作用、强调“一切观察都是按照某种理论对事实的解释”,从而消解理论与经验观察之矛盾、冲突的方法。波普尔关于“培根问题”的提出及其解决,无不与其哲学内涵有丰富的诠释学思想密切相关。     

The effect of peer group performance on the self-concept of reading in a foreign language

According to the big-fish-little-pond (BFLP) model, the self-concept is not only influenced in a positive way by one’s own achievement, but also in a negative way by one’s relative achievement in comparison with one’s immediate peers. This study investigates whether the BFLP effect also holds for second language acquisition. A random sample of 9167 Dutch-speaking students from Grade 8 took a reading comprehension test in French followed by a short background questionnaire in which they were asked for their self-concept of reading French. Multilevel regressions of the latter on individual and group achievement confirmed the BFLP effect but did not confirm an interaction of the effect with gender, individual achievement or class size. Moreover, in line with the local dominance hypothesis, it was shown that the negative effect of the average performance of peers is stronger for classmates than for schoolmates.
