Acting up or acting out? Unlocking children's talk in literature circles

It is generally accepted that talk enriches children's interpretations of texts in literature circle discussions. However, the nature of that talk and exactly how it facilitates interpretation of texts has not been much analysed. This article describes some work undertaken with a class of Scottish children, aged 9–10, to introduce them to the idea of literature circles. The literature circle discussions were then recorded and analysed. The purpose of the project was to record the kinds of exchanges, chains of comment and range of discourses and voices that children used when talking among themselves, and to reflect on their function and value. It was found that a lot of the talk was exploratory though not always in the sense proposed by Mercer. In his terms much was ‘cumulative’. Some talk veered towards anecdotal chat. The children also frequently put on voices not their own, mimicking characters in the story they were reading, and other people they knew. These forms of talk are not always encouraged in the classroom, their effectiveness for learning being in doubt. This article argues that cumulative talk, the telling of anecdotes and the performing of different characters' voices all have a useful function in discussions of books: they can encourage engagement, be helpful in bringing texts to life and advance children's thinking about literature.     

Information-governing dynamics of attacker–defender interactions in youth rugby union

Abstract

Previous work on dynamics of interpersonal interactions in 1 vs. 1 sub-phases of basketball has identified changes in interpersonal distance between an attacker and defender as a potential control parameter for influencing organizational states of attacker–defender dyads. Other studies have reported the constraining effect of relative velocity between an attacker and defender in 1 vs. 1 dyads. To evaluate the relationship between these candidate control parameters, we compared the impact of both interpersonal distance and relative velocity on the pattern-forming dynamics of attacker–defender dyads in the sport of rugby union. Results revealed that when interpersonal distance achieved a critical value of less than 4 m, and relative velocity values increased or were maintained above 1 m · s^?1, a successful outcome (i.e. clean attempt) for an attacker was predicted. Alternatively, when values of relative velocity suddenly decreased below this threshold, at the same critical value of interpersonal distance, a successful outcome for the defender was predicted. Data demonstrated how the coupling of these two potential, nested control parameters moved the dyadic system to phase transitions, characterized as a try or a tackle. Observations suggested that relative velocity increased its influence on the organization of attacker–defender dyads in rugby union over time as spatial proximity to the try line increased.

运用三分量开边界Bariev模型的monodromy矩阵,T,T-1,U-,作用到真空态上的值、Yang-Baxter关系及反射方程,给出了该模型的基本对易关系式,并给出了模型的递推的多粒子态波函数,从而为进一步运用嵌套的代数Bethe ansatz方法求解该模型的多粒子解Betheansatz方程以及系统的能谱奠定了基础。     

实习教师社会化行为模式探究

为了促进实习教师的社会化发展进程,在对以往关于实习教师社会化行为的研究成果进行梳理的基础上,本文以某省属师范院校音乐实习教师为研究对象,根据教育实习具体情境中实习教师的行为特点,归纳出"实习教师社会化行为螺旋嵌套模式",揭示了实习教师社会化行为发展的特殊性。     

基于IPsec的VPN技术应用与研究

利用VPN技术可以在开放的、不安全的公用通信网络上,建立一条安全、稳定的通信隧道,保证数据安全的传输．基于IPsec协议的VPN技术采用了多种技术手段很好的解决了网络通信的安全问题,必将成为VPN发展的主流方向．以IP安全协议体系IPSec作为基础,通过对VPN安全技术的分析,提出了基于IPsec构建VPN的解决方案,简要的分析了嵌套式隧道应用方案．最后对VPN网关系统基本性能进行了测试分析,给出了相关的结果．     

土地利用特征与出行属性对交通方式选择的影响:以南京主城区为例(英文)

以南京市主城区为例,基于随机效用最大化理论,建立了居民的出行方式选择分层logit模型.研究了个人社会经济属性、城市土地利用特征以及出行属性等因素对居民出行方式选择的影响.同时,通过计算出行时间与出行费用的直接弹性和交叉弹性分析它们对出行方式选择的敏感程度.研究结果表明:非机动化的出行方式在居住可达性和就业可达性高的区域更加具有吸引力,小汽车拥有者更加偏向于选择小汽车出行;相对出行费用而言,选择公交与地铁的居民对出行时间更加敏感;完善的公共交通系统以及城市土地利用与交通政策的有效结合有助于缓解由于城市的不断扩张引起的交通拥堵水平.     

Emerging communities of practice: collaboration and communication in action research

This article chronicles the experiences of Dialogues in Methods of Education (DIME), a group of school and university faculty. Over the past 22 years, DIME members have studied together how to improve their own teaching practices through research, the sharing of ideas and mutual support. They have also engaged in critical analysis of the disciplinary and institutional forces shaping their work. The history of DIME shows the importance of accommodating difference as well as providing mutual support for long-term collaborations.
