英美文学因从"自我"的视野审视"他者"的中国,对中国形象描述在不同时期呈现不同特点,由此就造成了文学中"自我"与"他者"理念下的冲突。正视"自我"与"他者"的差异,明确"自我"与"他者"的置换与统一,是消除文学敌视,促进文学繁荣与和谐社会发展的前提和条件。

詹姆斯·希尔顿的作品《消失的地平线》在叙述四个西方人在天堂般的香格里拉神奇历险的同时,成功塑造了极具神秘色彩的两个东方人喇嘛张和满族公主罗珍。文章通过深入分析作家对东方人的塑造,力图揭示作品中的中国人不论是被赞扬还是被贬低,被理想化还是被丑化,都在为西方文化的存在提供参照物,帮助其确认自身的价值。西方总是以居高临下的态度俯视东方,而东方从未被真正被表述,永远沉默地位于从属地位。

The character Heathcliff in Wuthering Heights is a controversial character that has aroused severe debate among critics and readers long since it was published in 1847.He is considered is a cruel devil and his acts in this novel are too far beyond a normal human’s moral acceptance.However,in spit of physical strength and his power of revenge,he is in a way also a victim of love and society.His destiny is doomed since he came into this world as the one who is"The Other"to take the revenge.     

‘Can I Come in Here?’ Winston’s Discovery of Edge-of-school Spaces and Meaningful Literacy Engagement

Literacy classrooms are places of tension in the shaping of literate identities for Black male students because of classroom and cultural mismatch, racialized literacy beliefs and deficit views of Black male literacy achievement. However, research on connections between students’ out-of-school literacy and academic literacy participation tells a strikingly contrasting story because efforts are made to connect literacy to the lived experiences, popular culture, and the personal literacy development of students to what happens in the classroom. Understanding the roles of literacy and space – specifically how Black male youth navigate, contend with, and participate in these spaces – is integral to transforming literacy learning and development for Black male youth within school walls. This paper uses Foucault’s theory of other spaces in order to examine one boy’s discovery of four edge-of-school spaces – spaces that he discovered for meaningful literacy engagement.

From eligibility assessment to intervention for students with autism spectrum disorder

The mean age of identification for autism spectrum disorder (ASD) occurs during the months before children enter kindergarten. The incidence and prevalence of “autistic behaviors” in the general population are not fully understood, however, census-matched studies of these behaviors have yielded important new data. As children presenting with behaviors characteristic of ASD enter school, school psychologists are increasingly faced with the assessment and determination of individuals with disabilities improvement act (IDEIA) eligibility, often with students yet to be formally diagnosed with ASD. In many US states, a clinical diagnosis of ASD is not required for a child's eligibility to be served under the category of other health impaired as autism. Nor does a diagnosis of ASD automatically qualify a student as eligible under IDEIA. Eligibility hinges on educational impact. This article briefly reviews the current state of knowledge as it relates to understanding and evaluating children with suspected ASD in the schools, offers a framework for assessment, and discusses a set of proposed guidelines to assist in effectively utilizing assessment data in the development of individualized education plan goals.
