Educating an iPod generation: undergraduate attitudes,experiences and understanding of vodcast and podcast use

There is an increasing pressure on university staff to provide ever more information and resources to students. This study investigated student opinions on (audio) podcasts and (video) vodcasts and how well they met requirements and aided learning processes. Two experiments within the Aston University looked at student opinion on, and usage of, podcasts and vodcasts for a selection of their psychology lectures. Recordings were produced first using a hand‐held camcorder, and then using the in‐house media department. WebCT was used to distribute the podcasts and vodcasts, attitude questionnaires were then circulated at two time points. Overall students indicated that podcasts and vodcasts were a beneficial addition resource for learning, particularly when used in conjunction with lecturers’ slides and as a tool for revision/assessment. The online material translated into students having increased understanding of the material, which supplemented and enhanced their learning without being a substitute for traditional lectures. There is scope for the provision of portable media files to become standard practice within higher education; integrating distance and online learning with traditional approaches to improve teaching and learning.

Excessive game playing is associated with musculoskeletal pain among youth athletes: a cross-sectional study in Miyagi prefecture

Youth athletes are known to be at high risk of musculoskeletal (MSK) injuries. Children in developed countries are increasingly adopting a sedentary lifestyle. Although some risk factors related to sports activities have been reported, the effect of lifestyle (i.e. screen time behaviour) on MSK pain in youth athletes is not well known. This study aimed to examine the association of game playing and TV viewing with MSK pain among youth athletes. A self-administered questionnaire was mailed to youth athletes belonging to the Miyagi Amateur Sports Association. The final study population included 6,143 youth athletes (male, 71.1%; age range, 6–15 years). Multiple logistic regression analysis was used to examine the association of game playing and TV viewing behaviour with MSK pain. The point prevalence of MSK pain was 25.5%. The longest category of game playing time (≥3 h) was significantly associated with MSK pain as compared with the shortest category (<1 h) (odds ratio, 1.39; 95% confidence interval, 1.12–1.73, p = 0.003). There was no significant association between TV viewing time and MSK pain. These results suggest that game playing time might be an associated factor for MSK pain among youth athletes.

文章根据女子散打比赛技战术视频分析的现状及其存在的问题,将多媒体数据库管理技术应用到女子散打比赛的技战术视频分析之中,在对女子散打比赛主要技战术动作进行分类与编码的基础上,利用视频剪辑技术,将大量的视频剪辑片段同相应的技战术关键特征标识进行关联,构建女子散打比赛技战术多媒体数据库,并开发了相应的技战术多媒体数据库管理系统,从而为提高女子散打运动训练的科学性、开展针对性训练,以提高比赛获胜的概率提供科学的依据。

实时视频拼接系统

一直以来,视频拼接的实时性和较好的图像质量都是相互牵制的。由于在多摄像头的公共区域中有视差角度以及运动物体等此类问题的存在,为了利用尽量快速高效的算法,而得到高质量的图像拼接,先用Harris算子视频图像的特征点,再结合改进的RANSAC方法寻找最适合的图像间单应性矩阵,最后融合成无缝高清的视频图像。该方法通过大量的实验,证明该系统可以自适应的实时对视频图像进行拼接,获得无缝、高清的大视场视频图像,满足实时性的要求,具有良好的图像品质。
