Teaching requires emotional labor. Humor is a promising but under-explored means of coping with such labor. A questionnaire was administered to 302 primary teachers to assess three kinds of emotional labor (surface, deep, and genuine acting) and four humor styles: two adaptive (affiliative and self-enhancing) and two maladaptive (aggressive and self-defeating). Affiliative and self-enhancing humor were positively correlated with emotional labor, whereas aggressive and self-defeating humor were negatively correlated with such labor. These results can help raise awareness of teaching’s emotional demands, and encourage teacher-training and professional-development programs to showcase appropriate ways, including humor, of coping with workplace emotions.  相似文献

Previous research has pinpointed that social support from host, co-national, and other international friends plays a pivotal role in successful adaptation to a new culture, yet research on this topic pertaining to China is inadequate. As such, using a cross-sectional sample of sojourners (N = 199) in major Chinese cities, the current study examines the relationship between sojourners’ self-reports of social support from the three sources and two psychological adaptation variables (i.e., anxiety and well-being) as well as the moderating effect of objective cultural distance. Regression analysis indicates that perceptions of host and international support are significant negative predictors of anxiety and positive predictors of psychological well-being. In addition, cultural distance moderated these predictive associations: host support and international support had a stronger negative association with anxiety and host support had a stronger positive association with well-being for participants whose cultural distance to China was lower compared to those whose cultural distance was higher. This study enhances our understanding of the dynamic interplay between social support and cultural distance in cross-cultural adaptation research within a Chinese cultural context.  相似文献

许多研究发现,不同于西方人直接的自我提升,东亚人更倾向于自谦,而且自谦行为的动机颇为复杂,这可能会使东方人的自我实现和主观幸福感的制约因素与西方人有所不同.对252名大学生和123名职业群体的研究表明,中国人自谦的动机包含"规范性""防御性"和"真诚性"3个维度.年龄对"规范性"和"防御性"有较高的预测性,能解释两者变异的29.5%和27.2%."真诚性"与"失望感"呈显著的负相关;"规范性"和"防御性"与"幸运感""自信感"呈显著的负相关.  相似文献

目的:考察地震灾区高中生外向性、社会期望和主观幸福感之间的关系。方法:采用大五人格简版量表的外向性分量表、儿童社会期望量表和主观幸福感指数量表对地震灾区的133名中学生进行调查。结果:相关分析结果显示,震后灾区高中生的外向性、社会期望和主观幸福感之间存在显著正相关,外向性和社会期望之间存在微弱正相关;层次回归分析显示,社会期望可以调节外向性和主观幸福感之间的关系。结论:震后灾区高中生的外向性、社会期望对其主观幸福感都存在一定的正向预测作用,且社会期望在外向性和主观幸福感之间还存在调节作用。  相似文献

This critical paper utilises selective education writings by John Dewey as the basis for considering how a strengths-based and personalised view of habit and embodiment could effectively thrive as part of an enhanced health and well-being focus in schools. The paper centres on Dewey’s belief that habits when allied to continuity and interaction could help children to integrate experiences in ways which enable them to constructively evaluate the contribution of health and well-being to their education. This paper proposes a theoretical framework to understand the structure and determinants for rural teacher well-being (TWB), with a focus on key factors that can mediate low pay and poor work conditions, specifically teachers’ professional learning (PL) and community engagement (CE). This framework was tested using structural equation model in a sample of 3155 rural teachers in China. The quantitative results confirmed a second-order factor structure for TWB, evidencing the significant impact of pay satisfaction and the mediating effects of PL and CE of rural teachers. Implications encourage policymakers to strengthen rural TWB by enhancing PL and community connections, while continuing to seek ways to improve pay and work conditions.  相似文献
