Reconciling “doing good” and “doing well” in organizations’ green IT initiatives: A multi-case analysis

Organizations considering green IT initiatives seek to reconcile two significant goals: environmental sustainability (“doing good”) and business profitability (“doing well”). These two purposes, however, are not necessarily aligned and can engender a dilemma in which investing to achieve environmental sustainability may threaten business profitability to some extent. Thus, this research builds on the theoretical perspective of corporate ecological responsiveness and proposes three types of strategic drivers for green IT initiatives (economic, authority, and moral drivers). How various types of organizations may be motivated by these green IT initiative drivers will affect whether organizations can reconcile the objectives of environmental sustainability and business profitability. We further deduce findings from multiple case studies of eight organizations in China and Singapore. The findings illustrate that the characteristics of any given organization influence why various driving factors affect their green IT initiative decisions. Additionally, “doing good” and “doing well” are reconciled when organizations consider the short-term investment and long-term benefit, design appropriate strategy, and receive severe external pressure. We also discuss contributions to research and practice.     

Reconciling market requirements and operations resources: an opportunity for action learning

This article brings together the fields of action learning and operations strategy. It presents a case of action learning focused on strategic operations improvement in the extended manufacturing enterprise. As the third article in the set of explorations in this journal within the fields of action learning, operations strategy and collaborative improvement, it steps inside an inter-organisational action learning programme and exploits an operations strategy perspective on the improvement process and outcome. Through distinguishing between puzzles and problems, the article extends the scope of the operations improvement cycle and illustrates how the action learning approach can accommodate and enable engagement with the issues in potentially insightful practical and theoretical ways.     

基于协同视角的区域图书馆业务统筹管理——以东莞图书馆为例

区域图书馆整体协同发展是通过一定范围内图书馆间的协同工作关系来实现的.在这些协同关系中,业务工作的统筹及一体化管理是保证工作流程的统一和顺畅,保证服务水平和质量的关键所在.在我国现有的分级财政的体制下,采取以业务统一管理为基础的渐进方案,不断增加区域图书馆间的同一要素,使其业务管理逐步集中于总馆(中心馆),从而实现区域图书馆整体协同发展具有重要的现实意义.东莞图书馆在探索区域图书馆整体协同发展道路上,通过强化业务统筹的职能,利用统一的业务管理系统--Interlib图书馆集群管理系统,实现了区域图书馆群整体上的资源整合和业务工作的统一管理,初步建成公益、开放、丰富、便捷的图书馆公共服务体系.     

跨安全网闸的内外网数据库同步的实现

介绍了在通过安全网闸SGAP（SecureGAP）连接的两个网络中的数据库同步的方法。将数据库的操作以SQL语句的方式记录在文件中，定时通过安全网闸将操作传送给另一方数据库，读文件，执行SQL操作，实现数据库同步更新。另外，还对跨网闸的数据库与传统数据库的同步进行了比较。     

Developing cyber peacekeeping: Observation,monitoring and reporting

Cyberphysical societies are becoming reliant upon the cyber domain for everyday life. With cyber warfare increasingly becoming part of future conflicts, new and novel solutions are needed to assist governments in securing their national infrastructure. Cyber peacekeeping is one such solution: an emerging and multi-disciplinary field of research, touching upon technical, political, governmental and societal domains of thought. In this article we build upon previous works by developing the cyber peacekeeping activity of observation, monitoring and reporting. We take a practical approach: describing a scenario in which two cyberphysical societies experience the negative effects of cyber warfare and require cyber expertise to restore services their citizens depend upon. We explore how a cyber peacekeeping operation could start up and discuss the challenges it will face. The article makes a number of proposals, including the use of a virtual collaborative environment to bring multiple benefits. We conclude by summarising our findings, and describing where further work lies.     

化工单元操作实训装置建设初探

建设与企业生产技术水平相适应、具有通用性和实用性的实训设备,是职业学校亟待解决的问题。化工单元操作实训是化工专业学生的重要实训环节。传统的单元操作实训教学存在着＂以实验代替实训＂的问题。因此应建设具有真实性、可操作性的化工单元操作实训装置,使学生在＂模拟车间、真实设备＂的环境中提高职业技能。
