文化相对主义与跨文化非语言交际研究

非语言交际在人类交际过程中起重要作用。非语言交际研究的核心是文化差异研究。文化相对主义提倡文化的平等性和多样性或多元化。试图用文化相对论去理解非语言交际的文化差异,为跨文化交际人士消除文化冲突和文化休克,真正达到跨文化沟通的目的。     

Don't speak to me in English: Communication apprehension in Puerto Rico

Comparison of communication apprehension levels of Puerto Rican college students with U.S. mainland students indicate the Puerto Ricans are much less apprehensive about communication in their native language than are the U.S. students but are much more apprehensive about communication in English. Additional findings indicate that apprehension in a first language is a much better predictor of apprehension in a second language than is self‐perceived competence in that second language. It is suggested that the problem of communication apprehension must be addressed by second language teachers if students are to be taught to be truly bilingual.     

Effects of graduate teaching assistant attire on student learning,misbehaviors, and ratings of instruction

This study examined the influence of teaching assistant attire in the university classroom. Significant relationships were found between instructor attire and student cognitive learning, affective learning, and ratings of instruction. Analysis of variance indicated significant differences in these variables by levels of teaching assistant dress. Significant negative relationship was found between instructor attire and student likelihood of misbehavior. Analysis of variance revealed that student misbehaviors were less likely for teaching assistants with high professional dress.     

The digital marketing skills gap: Developing a Digital Marketer Model for the communication industries

Scholarly literature suggests digital marketing skills gaps in industry, but these skills gaps are not clearly identified. The research aims to specify any digital marketing skills gaps encountered by professionals working in communication industries. In-depth interviews were undertaken with 20 communication industry professionals. A focus group followed, testing the rigour of the data.     

From the Technical Know-How to the Free Flow of Ideas: Exploring the Effects of Leader,Peer, and Team Communication on Employee Creativity

Creativity is the lifeblood of a successful organization, as creative employees drive companies to be innovative and competitive. While studies have examined how leaders foster creativity, researchers have overlooked how communication between workgroup peers and teams cultivate creative output. Interviews were conducted to determine the effects of leader, peer, and team communication on employee creativity within the national video game industry. Results indicate communication exchanges uniquely influence employee creativity, with peer associations being most crucial. Informal mentoring, or “creativity coaches,” were vital lifelines within creatively driven organizations. Additional findings highlight the importance of structure, support, and trust in creatively supportive organizations.

影视欣赏与跨文化交际教学

大部分人对于跨文化交际教学中的电影教学存在一个共同误区，认为电影是一个传授手段，利用影片教学就是放放电影，其效果十分有限。而实际上，如果我们把影片视为一个实践手段，一个自我评估手段，影片教学这个方法的效果也许不是那么有限。在教学进行到一定程度的时候播放了《刮痧》这部影片，学生运用所学知识对此进行跨文化差异分析，把影片教学当作一个实践手段和评估手段，不仅解答了学生对与该课程实际意义的困惑，而且进一步激发了学生学习跨文化交际学的兴趣。

论交际法语言教学

交际教学法作为一种现代英语教学指导思想主要包括以语言形式的可能性为主的四个要素,只有通过它们才能有效地实践这种思想.为达到这种教育目的,就应该在教学模式、师生角色、材料选用、交际的目的和情景做出切合实际、有效、合理的设计.在实践过程中,由于文化差异的影响,以及在我区的外语教学应该是非二语习得的外语教学环境,所以我们应采取循序渐进的方法来实践这种思想;否则,欲速则不达.     

Exploring motivations for intercultural contact among host country university students: An Irish case study

This article is concerned primarily with university students’ motivations for voluntarily seeking out intercultural contact on campus. It is based on a larger qualitative research project conducted in an Irish university. This project used a grounded theory approach to explore intercultural relations among students specifically from the perspective of the host culture student cohort. The findings indicate that host students’ decision to engage in intercultural contact is based primarily on a perceived utility associated with such contact, which is based on an informal cost–benefit analysis. Other, less prevalent motivational drivers, such as concern for others and the idea of having a shared future are also identified. Although the study focuses on a higher education environment, many of the ideas and theories discussed and questions raised may be applied to broader intercultural environments. In particular the article aims to highlight the current gap in literature relating to motivations for engaging in intercultural contact and also seeks to highlight the potential value of social exchange theory (Thibaut & Kelley, 1959) to understanding the dynamics of intercultural contact. It also emphasises the relevance of the concept of ‘homophily’ (Lazarsfeld & Merton, 1954) to the field of intercultural studies. As such, the article seeks to combine empirical data with extant theory in order to gain a deeper understanding into the dynamics of intercultural contact.
