The Importance of Cultural Understanding in English Study

Reading is a crucial tool in acquiring information and knowledge.Culture cannot be separated from language.College English reading should focus on the differences of culture.It is important to understand how to lay stress on the differences in the course of college English teaching and learning about reading for increasing students’ ability of reading.This thesis analyzes the influence of culture on English reading and tries to set up a principle of teaching English through culture.This thesis centers on cultural differences between China and Western countries and how to deal with that relationship in the English reading.     

Culture Differences and College English Reading

Cultural differences have a great effect on English learning,especially on college English reading.Reading is a crucial tool in acquiring information and knowledge.Culture cannot be separated from language.College English reading should focus on the differences of culture.It is important to understand how to lay stress on the differences in the course of college English teaching and learning about reading for increasing students’ ability of reading.This thesis analyzes the influence of culture on English reading and tries to set up a principle of teaching English through culture.To support my point of view,the relationship between language and culture is discussed first.Language is a part of culture and shaped by culture;it is also the carrier of culture and reflects cultural features of a community in which the language is spoken.Language and culture are closely related with each other.From the aspect of language teaching and learning,to teach a foreign language is to teach another culture;to learn a language is also to learn another culture.     

The Application of The Top-down Approach in Teaching Extensive Reading

The top-down and bottom-up are two main approaches used in teaching extensive reading and both of them should be used alternatively so that students can not only understand the details but also the main ideas of reading materials.The importance of using top-down approach is emphasized and some suggestions are given on the problem that students pay so much attention on vocabulary and grammar rather than main idea in reading.     

A Study on the Readings of Imperfective Aspect in English and Chinese

Smith (1997) proposes three stages of a situation from the imprefective veiwpoints in English: preliminary, internal and resultant stage and three readings of imperfective aspect. In the essay, the different readings of imperfective aspect in English and Chinese will be explored.     

语言模因论与英语听力教学

报道一项旨在验证"语言模因论"对英语学习是否有促进作用的教学实验。受试者为35名英语教育专业2009级本科学生。他们在课堂内通过听说等渠道模仿、朗读、背诵和复述《听力教程》中的某些英语听力对话、段落和新闻材料并学习里面的生词和短语以及与之相关的文化背景知识,行动研究的时间为16周。结果表明:所有被试者英语听力理解能力得到了较大的提高,而且促进了师生对英语听力理解过程的反思能力。这说明在进行英语听力训练时,对学生提出模仿、朗读、背诵和复述等学习方法的要求,不仅能有效地促进英语学习,而且提高教学质量。

"支架理论"对早期阅读有六点启示:澄清观念为基本前提、儿童为本为核心理念、多样化阅读为集中体现、语言环境创设为关键因素、师幼互动为现实途径、多元评价为检验方式。     

重视大班幼儿早期阅读中的结伴阅读现象

对大班幼儿自由阅读情境中结伴阅读现象的研究发现,结伴阅读是大班幼儿非常喜欢的一种早期阅读形式,而结伴阅读的实质是一种以阅读材料为媒介的社交活动。幼儿的结伴阅读能力有较大的个体差异,与其阅读能力及社交能力密切相关。教师应重视大班幼儿在早期阅读中的社交心理需求,将结伴阅读作为大班幼儿阅读的重要方式,重视对幼儿结伴阅读能力的观察、指导与评估,以促进其早期阅读能力的发展,并有效预防早期阅读障碍。     

基于阅读的高校图书馆之功用

阅读活动是实现文献价值的手段,而高校图书馆为了更有效地实现对知识信息的传播和使用,则应该针对师生的特点和阅读需求提供多样化的文献,建设多条文献信息与读者的通道,打造温馨怡人的阅读场地,形成一种环境推动读者进步和读者进而改造环境的良性互动。
