ABSTRACT This archival study explored patterns of client preferences from a randomized sample of 881 clients at a Midwestern university counseling center. Information from client intake forms was collected for a four year time frame. Results showed that 61% of the clients did not express preferences for particular types of counselors when asked on intake forms. Thirty-nine percent of the clients did express a preference for a particular type of counselor. Chi-square analyses found that clients with preferences tended to have prior therapy experience and tended to prefer counselor gender over other traits. Women and people of color tended to be the most likely to express counselor preferences. It is suggested that future research clarify the meaning behind preferences, the lack of preferences, and clients' expectations for counseling. 相似文献

The authors investigated predictor variables for the Counselor Preparation Comprehensive Examination (CPCE) to examine whether academic variables, demographic variables, and test version were associated with graduate counseling students' CPCE scores. This article presents the Cultural De-Centering Model (CDCM) as a constructive-developmental method for helping future counselors
to be less ethnocentric in their work. The goal of the CDCM is to increase counselors’ cultural relativism. Through the CDCM
counselors are asked to name and challenge their assumptions about race/ethnicity, gender, religion, sexual orientation, and
social class. They are then asked to re-examine the foundations of those assumptions and begin constructing culturally de-centered

This study examined the perceptions of 159 on-site mentor counselors and 172 school counseling interns from four graduate
programs in Israel regarding the main components of working contracts during school-based internships. Qualitative analysis
led to data clustering into four broad categories: a) rules and procedures; b) the intern’s work: objectives, content and
boundaries; c) the mentoring relationship; and d) ethical standards of practice. Differences between mentors and interns within
each category are discussed as well as the possibility of developing a standardized core contract as a platform from which
